8 1/2 month and still 3 naps, but itīs getting difficult
« on: May 26, 2018, 21:04:54 pm »
First of all, I have to admit that I have problems understanding the abbreviations as Iīm german but live in Spain and I read the book in spanish. So Iīm really sorry for that.

My baby is now 8 1/2 month old and still need 3 naps a day, but I think it is because he does not sleep at night.

A normal day goes like this :

9:00 wake up morning
10:30 1st nap
11:30 wake up
14:30 2nd nap
16:00 wake up
19:30 3rd nap
20:00 wake up
23:30 bed time

This is not like this every day, sometimes he only sleeps 30 minutes in some of this first naps and then he seems to be still tired for the whole time but does not want to sleep again until minimum 3h pas.

How could I get his naps and night sleep to be more ,,normal"?

Hello, I shall try not to use the abbreviations :)

What would your ideal bedtime and wakeup time be? I know things are different culturally there but I'd suggest trying to allocate at least 10.5-11hr for night sleep and we can work out the day routine from there.

I think most of your naps are off because that first one is far too early after baby wakes up. At this age, typically a baby would be up for 3.5hr or so before their first nap.

I'm imagining something a little like this:
0900 - wake for the day
1230 - nap 1
1400 - wake
1730 - nap 2
1900 - wake
2200 - bedtime

The perfect time for wake up would be between 8:30-9:30 and bedtime I donīt really care, but here it gets dark outside at 22h.

The only problem is that daddy is with him in the morning until 12h, than he is with grandma and than Iīm alone with him from 13:30 to 16:30h. I donīt want to sound like an egoist but of course it is perfect for me if he sleeps a bit within that time so I can have a quick shower or have lunch, as he is a high need baby and I cannot leave him for more than 5 minutes.

I suspect he will be less 'high needs' if he sleeps better and therefore is not as tired.

Certainly you could have lunch with him - you can have your lunch and give him some finger foods to eat/play with.

I would suggest trying this routine for 3-4 days at least and seeing how it goes. If it needs changing, we can work through that together, of course.
