We dropped the nap, now night waking
« on: May 29, 2018, 09:44:46 am »
So Austin was taking hours to go to sleep at night. We cut the nap down to 45 mins but we were still getting some 9.30/10pm drop offs at night and the most amount of ridiculous call backs. So we dropped it. It went well, he coped well and was asleep by 7pm. He would some times sleep til 7am. Sometimes between 6 and 7 which has always been normal for him. We have also had some night wakings. I'd say every other night probably. He wakes for a wee and then can't settle afterwards. Is this overtired? Should I just push through?

Thanks Zoe, sometimes it's hard to know if you are breaking them or not!! And the night wakings are breaking me a little! Hopefully won't last long.

We were the opposite, potty trained no probs at 22 months. Sleep for his whole life has certainly not been as easy 😂. On the surface he is coping well with no nap, he is his usual self all day, but the nw's are probably saying otherwise!

It’s a case of managing the OT with this last nap transition but getting some is inevitable x

Unavoidable I suppose. Thanks for the support. He had a 15 min car nap at 3.30 today and had been in bed for 15 mins and no sleep yet. Must avoid car naps then in future!

Hi, we are still pushing on but the night wakings are continuing and now we have bed time antics too. He was having a 10/ 15 min nap in the car every day this week until 3pm (picking ds1 up from holiday club) so I thought maybe that was the problem. Today is Saturday so no club and no car nap yet he is worse than ever. 25 mins he's been messing about now. I just don't know what do to! This is the reason we dropped the lap in the first place. For a a week or so he was dropping straight off but now back to the old ways.

12 hours usually. Because of our working it is hard to get him down any earlier. So if he wakes around half 6 then his day is probably 12.5 hours. Its too long I know. That's why I thought the micro nap might help. Maybe I should try it a bit longer.

He has had 10/15 mini nap most of the week and was messing around til nearly 8 after a 7pm bedtime. So stopped it the last 2 days. Yesterday was 8pm again  but today was 7.10 after a pd at 6.50.

Ok so this is turning into a bit of a mess now. 5.30 wake up this morning. I just can't believe it. He's been such a crap sleeper his whole life, I really thought dropping the nap was the last hurdle before we had some proper sleep.
I can only think to bring the nap back but the thought of 2 hour plus bedtimes and me going up and down the stairs 20 times to answer ridiculous call backs drives me to tears.

Thanks Zoe, I've calmed down a bit now. At 5.30 this morning I couldn't see the wood for the trees. Thanks, I'll try a nap day and see what happens.

Ok so I threw in a couple of naps. Yesterday he was out like a light at 1.20pm and I really really struggled to wake him after an hour. Then put down at bedtime 7.30 and he didn't drop off til 8.30 and was up at 5.30! Just 9 hours 😢.
Not really sure what to do. Go back to no nap and push through?

Ok, so after some really bad nights and early mornings I decided he was way overtired so I went back to the nap for a couple more days. I gave him 1 hour at 1.30 pm. First night he slept 7.30 to 6.30 which I was pleased with. Better than 5.30! The next night he slept 7.45 to 7.30am when I had to wake him so I could go to work. So nearly 13 hours in 24. I figured he was somewhat caught up on the OT and because of his late Wu I decided to go for Nnd. He went to bed at 7 and woke at 7! So we seem back on track, OT caught up etc. But I'm not sure what to do today. I scared to go Nnd again and push my luck and have more OT. Bug if I give him a nap after a 12 hour night he might resist bedtime like he used to til 9/10pm. Which was why we dropped the nap in the first place.
So any advice on today?

I was hoping for 11 hours after a 1 hr nap but he only did 10hr 45, 7.45pm to 6.30am. Could have been worse I suppose.

We’ve hit an ot wall and currently in a dilemma. In true text book fashion, ot bt equates to ewu 🤦‍♀️
Not entirely sure what time but I’d say it was anwhere around 5-5:30 ish. Heard her at 5:45 and she usually does lots of frantic squirming before noise. Brought her in with us in a desperate attempt to salvage something but wasn’t to be, she stayed settled but didn’t go back to sleep. Had the nerve to say she was tired!!
My dilemma is, do I try and get a car nap after ballet class this morning? Our current history of 30 mins naps results in bt issues. However my mum is baby sitting this afternoon/evening and she’s always wired with her so at risk of either crashing in her teatime or another or bt.
What to do, what to do??!!
Ask hubby.....’go with the flow’!!! Oh for life to be so simple!!!

I think that’s an ok night on a nap, we’d onky get 11 hours on a 30 min nap.

Conniesmummy - I’d do 20 min CN if she’s with your mum save the possibility of her letting her nap for an hour at tea time 😉

Hi Zoe, she dropped off after ballet in the car about 11, only let her have 30 mins and told Mum to keep her chilled and not let her get too giddy before bed 🤦‍♀️
She’s had a quietist day so fingers crossed she’s not awake when we get home at 11pm!!!
