One long one short nap?
« on: July 18, 2018, 14:54:27 pm »
Wondering around what age babies transition to one long nap and one short nap. Not sure if there’s a link or something I’m missing. DS is 7 months and I’ve noticed this has happened a little bit the past few days.
Thanks!

Thanks for the reply and link!
My little guy has been on 2 naps since 6 months old, and I was more wondering the average age they start having one short nap and one long nap. Not sure if there’s a definitive age.

Ah I think that you start to cap one nap as you get sleep disruptions with the 2 naps or at night - probably nearer to 1 year. You may want to look at the 2-1 transition FAQs instead  :)

My 8mo does this already. She has a super long nap in the morning  of 2-3.5hrs and then just 30-60 minutes in the afternoon/early evening.  My older 3 were all nearer 9-10mo though I think.

Does your baby seem to naturally like one long and one short nap?

My guy normally takes two 1.5 hour naps a day - I could set my watch to it, it was fantastic! This past week, he’s had a couple days of one nap at 1 hr, and the second nap still at 1.5 hrs (so this is very new for him, and not too drastic). I’m slowly extending his A time in the morning to help get that first nap back to 1.5 hrs, but I know that can take time. Just wasn’t sure when that change typically happens. Thanks for sharing your other LO’s were 9/10 months. That’s what I was envisioning for that transition, and like to have a heads up on what to expect!

Yep sounds about right for an A time increase first thing then 🙂
