shush pat technique - how persistent at any one sitting?
« on: July 23, 2018, 19:55:07 pm »
I'll rephrase.

thinking about doing this but want to know at any one nap/sleep time how persistent should we be? dont stop until it works? quit after 100? Just looking to understand where to cut it off if not working and where to persevere.

Thanks

I'd trust your fatherly instinct.  If it doesn't seem to be settling LO then I wouldn't persevere to the point of too much upset. Remember you can do it in your arms as an interim measure before committing to the cot as well.

Hi

Thanks for replying

Unfortunately I think our instincts can’t be trusted with a lot of this stuff, hence why we get ourselves into these situations of accidental parenting!

So hoping some can give me some guidelines on when I should persevere and when I should stop

It's hard to say without being in the room and seeing how your baby reacts but personally if your baby is getting more and more upset and not calming I'd leave it and try again next time.

There really is no set amount because you need to read how your baby is reacting and sense whether LO is calming or getting more agitated. Defo no more than 45 minutes but personally I wouldn't go that long if LO was upset.
