Overtiredness and 45 minute naps
« on: September 01, 2018, 13:02:47 pm »
I can’t believe I am back here after 7 years. The relief to see this board is still going was huge. I am following a routine but feel my A times for my 13 week old may be too much, but they were suggested by another routine (Little Ones).

Anyway I’m struggking with my afternoon nap. LO wakes every day 45 minutes into the nap. 45 minutes more or less on the minute.

This is his routine typicallly:

Wake 7am
Eat 7.30
Sleep 9am

Wake 10am
Eat 10.30
Sleep 12pm

This is where is starts going wrong because he will not sleep longer that 45mins.
Ideally he would then

Wake 2.15
Eat 2.30
Sleep 4.15

Wake 5pm
Eat 5.15 & 6.45
Sleep 7pm

DF 10/11pm
NF 3-4am

Can anyone please help me? I feel at a total loss and the over tiredness is overwhelming.

Thank you in advance.

Thank you. My son settles wonderfully. We have always had a strict routine so he knows what is coming. He doesn’t cry when going for a nap... it is just this waking at 45 mins and not resettling!? Would you suggest W2S?

I would try extending the nap, intervening before he wakes up if possible. In our case it was the pacifier falling out that was the trigger: she woke looking for it, so getting it back in there before she really noticed it was out was key for us. We also extended her A time incrementally.

I never had luck with W2S, but some folks swear by it. :)

Hi! I'm not sure I'll be any help, but my son has been napping wonderfully till he was about 13/14 weeks than only napped for 45 mins a time. It didn't matter if we did sh/pat, paci, w2s, anything. I got frustrated and sometimes felt pretty hopeless. Now he's 5 months old, didn't change much in his routine (except adjusting to 4h routine obviously) and he can take longer naps. I think that sometimes it's purely developmental.

Thank you. I am wondering if it is. He is very teary at the moment and can’t be put down. He goes to sleep fine but we have more night wakes atm too. He is 13+2 but was 10 days late so I am wondering whether we are in the middle of a leap and sleep regression.

Also maybe 3-month growth spurt, which would affect appetite and sleep until it levels out.
