12 month old naps
« on: September 13, 2018, 14:09:26 pm »
Hello my lo is 1 next week and has always been a serial napper but a good night sleeper bar a few weeks of EMW here and there. After weeks of resisting the morning nap or taking a 1.5 hour nap but broken and then resisting the afternoon nap, this week she's been doing a 35-45 minute nap in the morning although she still fights it going down and doesn't wake up overly happy but is happy once she's up and then does a 1.20 nap in pm and goes down finefke trhis one and wakes up chatting and happy. We've had a few nights of sleep cries though from about 3.30am every 30 minutes but she does settle herself.

Yesterday went like this:

WU: 6.30
A: 3.00
S: 9.30-10.10 (woke herself not overly happy and a bit of protest going down)
A: 3.10
S: 1.20 - 2.40
A: 4 hours (not through choice as we try and get her down earlier but she refuses to go to sleep until about 6.40/6.45 and she's always been like this when it used to be 6.30 and she was younger)
BT: 6.45 (sleeps 11.5/12 hour nights)

I just don't see how we'll ever move to 1 nap as I can't get her to sleep for more than 1.20. I'm not sure if we need a routine change?

Thank you

Hi don’t worry about pushing to 1 nap they all get there at different times, my DS2 still had 2 naps until 18 months lol.

For us we had mini CN at 9.30am for 20 mins and then did long nap 12.45 for 1.5/2 hours but a 13 hour day. As your nights are pretty good I wouldn’t worry too much on the length of naps your getting unless you have grumpy baby.
I’d try capping that first nap a bit see if you get a longer second one and maybe lengthen the day a bit.

Well we were having a bit of success with the following:

WU: 6.30-7
Nap1: 10-10.30 (I woke her at 30 mins)
Nap 2: 1.30-2.50/3
BT: 6.45-7

The last week or so we've had nap refusals or short naps and wake ups in the night either crying or happily chatting away at 1am. She has had jabs last week and her first molar has cut so I've no idea if it could be this or the 12 month regression or she is transitioning to 1 nap. The short naps started before she had her jabs though but the refusal and night wakings have been after her jabs

Hi it could be all of it lol!

I’d push Bat 15 mins later just to see if it’s UT behaviour in the night x

Thank you! It's just typical with starting nursery next week and me going back to work! It's like everything has come at once. Thank you as always - I will try that x

To be honest it might all go pear shaped with nursery anyway so don’t worry too much x

Ok so we were getting some sort of normality back at nighttime and naps although she was still fighting the first cat nap. Nursery have said the same thing in that she isn't really tired for her first nap until 11/11.30 but then she refuses the afternoon nap. I've also been struggling to get her to fall asleep for a cat nap at 9.30/10 unless I drive her or put her in the buggy but this isn't always an option. Nursery can't put her down at 11/11.30 and let her nap for as long as she wants as they have lunch at 12. They put her down for 1 nap today after she refused the morning nap and she slept an hour (1.10-2.10) which isn't enough at all. She was awake at 6.20 and they tried at 10.30 for nap 1. I'm not too sure what to do and I hate battling her for a morning cat nap. After a 20-30 min cat nap she'll do 1.20 nap about 3 hours later so still not really really long. She's 13 months next week and back to doing 11.5-12 hour nights. Thank you

It’s so hard at this stage, petsonallybif you can’t get cat nap in I’d just push to 1 nap and use EBT on nursery days.
Stress to them that you want her sleeping ASAP after lunch x

Thank you Zoe. I guess she is in this weird 2-1 transition stage. If it's a home day and the cat nap fails and we end up doing 1 nap, what sort of time would you aim for to start with? She normally wakes at 6.30 x
