Constant night waking for months
« on: October 28, 2018, 20:39:25 pm »
Hello, I have 2 4 year old boys (just turned 4) they are both very highly sleep needs. Lewis has an ear infection about 3/4 months ago and Leo has a bit of a sniffle but nothing major.

They both stopped napping around summer time and nights have been good, with early bedtimes around 7ish. Now since this ear infection they have both been in beside us EVERY single night without fail between 11 and 1 crying and absolutely sound asleep In the morning.

Normally if we do get night wakings it’s over tired and be fixed easily but they’re refusing bed times at the moment.

Thank you

Hello! :)
Lovely to see you.

Sounds like the birthday developmental leap thing to me. Mine always did it every birthday until he was 7, I think that was the only time he didn't play up at BT or have NWs around his birthday leap.  All the other years (and half years) it was several weeks or so of disturbed routine.  I usually shifted BT later (like 30-60 min) to avoid the BT refusal even though I knew he needed more sleep than he was getting, it just meant he went down easier without all the battle. Then when the phase was over I moved BT back to normal.

Hi! Thank you

It’s just leo that’s making the trouble now with going to bed. Lewis is settling, but they are both waking up around 3.5 to 4 after falling asleep and they are both in beside us every single night without fail ::)

Both of there behaviour during the day is so bad, and now Lewis is down right refusing to go to the toilet  :(

Thanks xx

It’s probably the habit now honey and even if it started from the routine it seems they get used to sleep with you. Can you spend couple of nights on constant removing them to their room or even sleep there for the beginning?

Thank you you’re reply. They both have been unwell and now on the mend. For the past 2 nights I’ve been sitting in a chair in the room I’m hoping this is a start to making things better.

I definitely remember when oldest DS was this age we went through a sleep regression and the same sleeping nonsense  ::)

When we had the trying time around 3/4yo I actually set up a "sleep spot" on the floor near my bed. I put down a sleeping bag & pillow (no mattress) on top of a blanket & they'd sleep there when they woke & wanted to be with me, they weren't in the bed with me, but they got their need to be near me met.
