7 month old - 45 min naps
« on: January 16, 2019, 12:33:05 pm »
Hello, I am writing from Poland. My son has poor naps. It has been always that way. He used to nap 30 minutes and since 2 months he naps for 45 minutes. He won't nap anytime after 4 p.m. I have no idea why. We had a routine :

6.30/7 am - wake up
8.30-50 am - first nap 45 minutes
11.13-12 - second nap 45 minutes
15.20-15.50 - third nap always 30 min, wakes up with crying
18-18.30 - bedtime

But now, when he got older I can see that he needs more activity time. I dont know how our day should look like. What time he should nap. Today he was tired after about 2,5 hour but had trouble falling asleep. He played in his bed with his feet for 20 minutes, he rolles over to his belly and cant go back. He does not lnow how to sleep on a belly. I tried to exctend naps but he screams really bad, my heart cant handle this. Sometimes he extends his naps on his own, but it is not really often. Please help. Thank you

At 7months in an ideal world you'd be looking at 2 naps.

He's doing a good 12 to 13 hours overnight, so he should be able to cope with 3 or more hours in the day,  I'm wondering if he's actually either habitual tired at the 2.5 hours or he's bored.

Do you give him lots of time to practice rolling in the day?

Also when you get close to the 2.5hours time, rather than prepare him for sleep, I'd try sitting with him & reading a book & singing some songs, or taking a walk around pointing out things & talking to him to extend the time.

Today he was up at 7. First nap 9.30-10.30, second nap 1.45-2.50. I wanted to put him to bed at 6.15 pm but he cried for 40 minutes. He was overtired....he fell asleep during last breastfeeding. What our nap times should be ?

I’d try for 3 hours in the morning, but keep the last 40 mins or so low key, read stories, walk around with him in your arms looking at things so he’s comforted then go from there.
It’s not an exact science, all babies are different and so are days so some days it might be 2h 45 mins another 3 h 15mins, it’s really as much about getting a feel for how it fits that day around a rough guide of 3 or so hours between naps.

That's probably indicating he's overtired and 3 hours is too long.
It could be worth doing 3 naps one day and 2 naps another and see how that goes.
