How long shh/pat when resetteling for naps?
« on: March 20, 2019, 17:10:56 pm »
Hi!
My DD is 7 weeks and we use shh/pat before sleep and to resettle and extend naps. My question is, how long do we keep trying to resettle for naps? Sometimes she cries a lot and eventually we'll give up and get her up but then she has used maybe 15min of her a-time and we don't have time to put her down early enough for her next nap and also the crying seems to make her really overtired. Her a-time is around 1h 10min. Any advice?

At 7 weeks I probably would only try for 5mins then maybe see if she will settle in a sling or a stroller or your arm. But at that age it's still reasonable for a BF baby to feed every 2 hours. Even some FF babies do. I wouldn't let her cry for more than a few minutes as dehydration is a big issue in small babies.
