7 month second nap
« on: April 26, 2019, 20:43:33 pm »
Hi,

I’m looking for some help with my 7 month old naps. She’s 7 month in a few days time. She is generally a good sleeper and has been independently sleeping since 3 months old.

I can usually get a good first nap. She’s pretty consistent with it and if she isn’t, then I Exeter’s a time and it usually falls back into place. However I cannot get my second nap right at all and it’s making dinner and bedtime much harder as she’s so tired.

7.30
S09.20-9.40 (car)
S:10.50-12.10
S:2.20-2.40
S: 4.50-5.30 (40)
Bed 7.15 sleep 7.20 (was out all day)

Woke 7.30
Nap 10.40-12.20
nap 3.10-4.10(unsettled)
Bed 6.45 asleep in arms 6.50

Woke 5.10 fed
Woke 7.45
Nap 10.52-12.35
Nap 14.30- 3.20
Bed 6.35, 6.45 sleep

Woke 3.15 feed
Woke 7
Nap 10.14-12.25
Nap 3.30-4.30
Bed 6.50 asleep 6.55

Those are my last few days. I don’t know if she is overtired or under tired for pm nap 🤷‍♀️
Thanks

Hey! Our days are similar. A one long nap, one short nap routine is fine at this time as long as it doesn't leave you with too long a gap till bed. Just going by the days you posted, it seemed like you had a better night with a short A before bed.  I'm not clear on what A time you are doing  - do you change as per her cues? As your A time keeps increasing, you would anyway be moving to 1 nap + CN routine , so don't worry too much about it. You can always opt for an early bedtime if the catnap ends too early. What do you think?

Hi,
Thanks for your reply.
She does 3hr 10mins a in the morning and I don’t have a set a for the second nap and that’s because I cannot ever get it correct to get a long nap. I think she needs around 3hr 20 mins A for the afternoon but it doesn’t always given a long nap. I guess you are correct about moving to one nap eventually.  My first LG went to one nap quite early as well.

She does like a short A to bed so today I had to do this

Wu: 6.50
S: 10.10-12.20
S: 14.35-15.05 (in car on way back from sensory class)
S: 5.10-5.30 (apop in car)
Bt 7.15 asleep 7.20

As she likes a short A to bed, 3.05-6 ish would have been too long on a 30 min nap so I did apop cat nap

She woke up twice that night but not sure if it’s a coincidence.

I think you’re right in that a short pm nap is ok now if I’m maintaining a 7/7.30 bedtime. Yesterday I did manage this:

Wu 6.35
S 9.55-11.15
S: 14.50 - 16.10
Bed: 7.05 sleep 7.10 tired on bottle

I’m having issues with my am nap now 🙄 it’s gone from 2 hours to 1 hr 20 mins and today I pushed A time from 3hr 20 min to 3hr 30 min and she did 45 min nap 😩

When pushing A times, don't judge right away. Stick to the new time consistently for a few days to decide. I agree that if the nap length was dropping, a push in A times was needed, and 10 minutes at a time sounds perfect to me. Xx

I managed to get the am nap back to avoid two hour sleep.

I always stay at home for the am nap to keep to her routine but I do have to go out in afternoons usually which means a nap on the go. I still can’t get the second nap longer than 40 mins or so.

Her new thing though is 15 or 20 mins pm nap 🙈 what a to be would you suggest on such a short cat nap?

Today was
Wu:8.05
S: 11.25-12.03 awake 10 mins then 12.15-14.10
S: 16.55-17.10 woke and wouldn’t go back to sleep (pram sleep)
Bd 7 but screamed until 7.40

Bedtime screaming is soooo unlike her 😢😢😢😢😢
