10 month old troubles
« on: July 31, 2019, 18:25:14 pm »
Hi,
I’m looking for some advice. Second bw baby who is almost 10 months. Been a good napper and self settles for all sleeps. She’s not going to bed well just now. She rolls around and talks and then eventually cries. Previously would have just gone off to sleep easily and likes a short a to bed.  Can someone look at my routine and see what you think? Many thanks

Wu: 6.55 or 7.25?
S: 10.50-11.40 poo, crying, ot?
S: 3.10 - 4.45 crying had to rock to sleep
Bd: 7.45, s: 7.55

Nw 5
Wu 7.27
S: 11.05-13.05
S: 16.24-4.56
Bd: 7 s: 7.45 Rolled Around and gurned, in once

Nw 3.30
Wu 6.45
S 10.30-12.00
S: 2.35-3.15 hot day after sensory
Bd: 6.45 s: 7.15 rolled around chatting, in once

Nw 12.30
Wu 6.37
S 10.30-12.00
S 16.10-16.50 (was tired about half 3 I think)
Bd 7.35 s: still awake currently at 8

To get her to sleep just now at bedtime I’m having to go back in and she won’t settle without more milk. She doesn’t feed to sleep as such as she’s still awake when I put her in but she wants more bottle. Not sure if it’s comfort?

You've said it's hot, and she wants the bottle more, so thirst could be a factor, so definitely offer more fluids in the day.

She's also at an age with lots of development going on and it quite possibly is less about times but under or over stimulated and physical tiredness.
As generally her sleep patterns look reasonable (babies are never perfect) I'd be thinking that a tweak to the rituals before bedtime might help. Do you read to her? That would be a good way to help her relax, as the rolling around and chatting is related to unwinding and relaxing.
It may also be she no longer needs the short A before bed, but needs a longer one.

Thanks for your reply, helpful to hear your thoughts.

I had thought the same about not winding down enough before bedtime. IVe got an energetic 4 year old so it’s never very chilled in my house  :) so I have started reading some books to her As part of her routine. It hasn’t made a different yet. Will continue with it as part of her routine anyway though as she’s old enough to enjoy it now.

I think you are right about no longer needing as short an a time to bed. I just can’t find that sweet spot for her activity time after a catnap and with her showing no tired signs until she is overtired, it’s proving difficult. I’ve gone with 3 hours 15 mins after a catnap of 40 mins and I’ve bad to go back in once then she slept
