how long til rash goes away?
« on: August 01, 2005, 20:34:02 pm »
John has developed a rash on his side, arm, down one leg and tummy.  It has been there for about 2-3 days.  It's tiny bumps like pimples, not red or itchy.  I am assuming this is an allergy. The only new thing he has had in the past week is raspberries, which like strawberries, he loves.  I know he has reactions to strawberries so I'm thining that they are similar berries.  The strawberry rash is usually more localized around his mouth and much more short lived.   He hasn't had any raspberries since Saturday morning and it looks like it is spreading.

How long after the last time he ate a food will the rash last?

Hi Carolyn, My son suffers from severe food allergies and eczema. In my limited experience, I would say that the symptoms you desribe could be eczema, rather than a food allergy. All the food allergies Jacob has had have come up quickley and gone down within 10-30 minutes, unless they have been severe enough to warrant treatment. They usually affected his face first too. Eczema can have lots of different presentations affecting various areas of the body.

I think the most important thing you can do is to visit your Doctor to check it out.

Good luck.

Hi carolyn

sounds like a reaction to something that may have manifested itself as eczema. It doesn't necessarily mean it could be a food allergy though (although it could be a food reaction where the result is ongoing eczema like Liv had with dairy and lesser with soya - maybe raspberries are more potent for him?).

We are just going through the heat/sun/sun cream elimination process here as Livvi reacted with eczema and a hive like reaction recently (in quite a bad way on two occassions). Could it be linked with heat/sweating/sun/sun cream as I notice you are in the Carolinas which must be pretty hot at the moment?

Just a thought
Sara

Thanks for your responses.  The rash is still there only now it looks like sand paper instead of little bumps, it's just a rough patch.  I think you are right about the eczema.  It has been incredibly hot here lately, but we have been indoors through most of it.  I don't think it is heat rash.  I'll call the doctor tomorrow and see if I can get him in.
