9 M/O wants to wean himself to solids
« on: July 25, 2005, 22:08:48 pm »
A couple of months ago my son seemed to really like solids more than his liquids, so I decreased his solids intake so he was hungrier at bottle time. This worked.
However its happening again, and decreasing his solids isn't working. He just is really not very interested in formula.
He drinks a full 8 oz. first thing in the morning, but the past week or so I'll try to give it to him at other times he used to take liquids and he'll sip a couple ounces and then be done. (less than 20 oz. total of formula/day)

->Can anyone help me with how much formula he should be drinking? Should I let him gradually wean himself to solids over the next couple months?
He is drinking water, so I'm not concerned about dehydration.

I think that when they are 9 months to one year, they should be taking between 16 to 24 ounces of formula a day.  Sounds like he's got it right.

My ds was always more interested in his solids than his bottles.  When I asked my ped he said if I was really concerned to give him cereal twice a day that was made with formula.  It worked well for us.

I forgot to mention in my original post that he'd been waking up every couple nights from hunger. I realized that I'd been giving his afternoon bottle too close to lunch, as well as trying to fit in too many bottles. We're down to three, which gives him about 20 or 22 oz.
Doing great! Thanks!
