Eggs and Yogurt - at what age?

When is it OK to feed Eggs or Yogurt to an infant?  DS has been on solids since 4 mos. because of his large size.  I'm a little nervous about giving these two things.  How old do they have to be to try these foods?  I found the YoBaby whole milk yogurt at the market.  Someone told me that DS should not eat milk products until 9 mos ?!?  Formula is milk-based so I am confused.  Thank you!

Formula is different because in its manufacturing certain proteins are removed and minerals balanced, although it is still cows milk based. Some children with allergies with also have problems with formula. I was told milk products such as cheese and yoghurt are OK from 9 months but I know some people start sooner. I was also told eggs are a problem due to the risk of salmonella poisoning - especially the egg whites. Egg whites are OK from 12 months and egg yolks from 10 months. This doesn't necessarily fit with what everyone else will say! Annabel Karmel uses whole eggs in recipes for under 12 months but then she isn't overly cautious about food allergies etc. HTH

according to the info I was given processed dairy (cheese yogurt ) can be introduced from about 7-8 months if no family history of milk related problems, but if there is hold off until at  leat 9 months.  & my info says the same for Eggs as the previous post, they can be a highly problematic (not necessarily allergic) food in lo's

Yoghurt was one of the first things my DS ate - around 6 months of age.
We were told it was OK from 6 months. Also told cows milk in small doses from 9 months is OK, particularly in cooking. Just watch bub to see if there is a reaction. I was told egg yolks are OK from 9 months and whites from 12 months. Not sure why!

The other thing to consider with dairy products, particularly milk, is that if you have a family history of Type1 Diabetes, you may wish to delay introducing dairy until after one year. There has been an association with starting milk early and developing Type 1 diabetes in those families.  I think it's something to do with the protein in cow's milk in succeptible individuals can cause an autoimmune response - basically the baby's body reacts against the protein and a similar protein in the body responsible for insulin production is also attacked (but don't quote me!).

With egg whites, it's not only the risk of salmonella, but also the protein in the whites can be very allergenic.
