Meal Options for 11 mo old
« on: August 04, 2005, 16:42:13 pm »
Hey everyone. I could use some meal options for an 11 mo old. She won't eat any purees. I feel like she is getting bored. I do pretty much feed her the same things for breakfast and lunch, and then try to give her whatever we eat for dinner if possible. Thanks!!

I'm in the same boat, Beth is now 11 months and 2 weeks, and refuses to eat any purees apart from fruit and i'm completely stumped for as to waht to give her.  We seem to eat the same things everyday.  She eats the following, but not everyday...

Breakfast: Weetabix, Toast, yoghut and/or Cheerios.

Lunch: Cheese on toast, ham, cheese, pureed fruit

Dinner: What ever we eat, but as finger food

I've tried giving her eggs, different sandwiches, but she is not interested and as she will only feed herself, she gets bored after about 20 mins and then refuses anything.

You're not the only one Kori!  :?

How do you feed ham? I try to get slices from the deli but I think that they are still too thin even though I request thick.

I just give her wafer thin ham, cut it up in to long strips and let her eat it with her fingers, all other meats I cut up to pieces about the same size as a pea.

I have a 10month old and have found that if I give him baby oatmeal or rice cereal and chop up a fresh pear, apple, banana, etc... and put little hunks of it in the cereal, plus let him self feed soem of the hunks, then he will willing eat it.  I do the same thing at lunch with veggies like carrots, peas, and green beans.  My question is how much of the toast, meat, etc.. are you giving your lo at a time?  My ds is a social eater already.  He wants to continue to eat if we are eating.  :)

My dd will sometimes eat a whole piece of toast. It really just depends on her mood. ;) I am interested that you give fresh pears and apples. You don't try to soften them? Maybe I should try that.

Well, pears Beth will only eat if mixed with something in a puree, but apples, I use red apples, chilled, I core them and peel them, then I cut them into slices (rings) and Beth can use them as a teether (it works really well, especially when she is teething).

Grapes and raisins, I cut in half, bananas slices, melon chunks etc

Jaden eats basically what we eat...he hasn't touched baby food in quite a while now and at the beginning, we didn't know what to feed him. Now, he'll eat anything from pasta with some cheese on top, to rice with some minced pork or egg yolk. He'll eat anything that has texture and is a social eater as well. As long as we're at the table, he'll eat! He doesn't like finger foods so much yet; he prefers still that we feed him which is fine by me. I think Jaden's most favorite thing to eat is noodles. So, I'll either make a broth and put some noodles and veggies in there with some meat of some sort or I'll saute it with some olive oil and garlic! He loves the stuff! :D

I too feel like I am giving Norah the same menu day in and out!

Breakfast is cheerioes, oatmeal or waffle and a banana, ripe pear, sliced grapes, peach or melon and cottage cheese for protein.
Lunch and dinner: pasta, rye crakers or bread with egg, minced turkey or tofu and some kind of vegetable like zucchini or cooked carrot, cauliflower, peas or black beans.  I usually give her another fruit at supper too.
Norah Ann will be 1 on August 20th 2005

My dd is almost one year old.  How do you guys give your dcs sandwiches or toast?  Do you cut it up or cut it in slices, etc?

I give my dd toast and she loves it. I just cut it up in little pieces and top with cream cheese, cheese, or a little butter. She will even eat it plain. I haven't given sandwiches yet. I would be interested to know if someone else does.

Do you cut it up the size of Cheerios?  Eating is the one thing that really scares me as she grows up.  I am cautious in what I give her and the size that I cut it up in.

Well, I personally don't. They are pretty small but I do have a friend that did when her ds was their age. So it is your own choice. Do what you feel comfortable is my opinion.

when I make DD a sandwich ( ppb, bologna or turkey usually ) I just put one piece of meet between the bread and then kinda squish the bread together so its easy to tear or cut and kinda sticks together easily for self finger feeding. PPJ ~ Light peanut butter and jelly and I squish again and remove crust. She truely loves pbj sandwich! With a bannana on the side! Btw she is 9 months
