Any pearls of wisdom re. naps for 12mo?
« on: August 05, 2005, 01:23:33 am »
Hi all,

I came on the site ready to post, and saw that there's already a thread about an 11mo going to 1 nap - but here I go anyway!:

I just can't figure out DD naps at the moment.  She suddenly went from naps around 9am (1.5hrs) and 2pm (1hr) to bright-eyed and bushy tailed ALL MORNING - and a nightmare to put down.  I just tried at 1pm (15 mins ago) after 6:30am waking and she's still doing some laps of her cot with no sign of sleep!  She did some huge yawns and eye rubbing during a nappy change, so I read her a story, popped her in the cot and gave her the silky bit of her blanket to rub while she sucked her thumb - however, since leaving the room she seems to have got a second wind.

Questions:
How long should I leave her awake in her cot before abandoning the nap effort and trying again later?

Who has had a baby around this age who suddenly totally changed their nap time?

Yesterday in the afternoon we had to go to the paed, plus had arranged to meet my ante-natal class friends and (as she didn't nap in the morning) DD didn't have more than 5 mins sleep before 4pm!!!!!!  She finally fell fast asleep in the car on the way home - I left her in her carseat and worked at the PC in the front room while watching her through the window!  She had an hour's nap before waking, but was pretty grumpy until bedtime at 7pm.

We seem to have lost our "rhythm" and I'm struggling to find one that's appropriate - anyone have any comments?  She's not walking yet, apart from with a toy trolley thing.  Will she become more tired when she walks?

Hi

Our LOs aren't that far apart and I know you saw my post "11mo going to one nap".

We had similar nap times as you until 2 wks ago.  My LO started her 45min nap thing, which I think is the same as refusing a nap.  Refusers - won't nap cuz there are not tired enough.   45min nappers - won't sleep longer cuz their not tired enough.

We had about 10days where she won't sleep longer no matter how long I kept her up.

My only pearls of wisdom is play w/ her Awake times and be prepared to ride it out.  She will sort it out.

How long should I leave her awake in her cot before abandoning the nap effort and trying again later?
If she is not upset, then give her the entire hour to fall asleep.

I think we are now on nap times of 10.00am and 2.30/3.00 (depending on how long am nap is and I’ll be waking her at 7am every day.  She usually is awake but lately has slept 15-20min longer also bed time will be about 7.15 vs. 7.00.

Hope that helps some, I’ll be interested to see what other have to say.
