HELP! baby started standing in crib bedtime game
« on: August 06, 2005, 02:26:56 am »
Hi!
We've been doing okay with pick up put down, and baby did not have any special sleep issues.

However, last week she learned to stand inside her crib, grabbing the rails and bars until she manages to stand. Now she loves to play the game of standing-pick-up-put-down. The first couple of nights, she only stood up twice before que snuggled to sleep with her blankie. But tonight she must have done it 30 times. Finally, Daddy and I did the nono and took her for a ride, for the more she played the game , the more energetic she got, even as we tried her bedtime routine again and again (tried that 3 times).

Anyway, I'm hoping that someone has had a similar experience and can teach me how to recover from this new dilemma.

Much love to all,

Ana Karina

Hello,

This happened to us as well. Consistency is the key...each time I went in I would lay him down, wouldn't say anything except maybe goodnight and then walk out. I'd wait outside his door for his 'I need you right now!' cry and then go back in and do it over again. At first, it's really frustrating and you think you'll be doing this all night, but eventually it becomes easier and after a couple of days ds stopped doing it. I decided not to rock him (even though I knew if I did that he'd fall right asleep much easier) because it would be confusing for him - he'd be thinking 'I wonder if Mom is going to rock me this time or lay me back down?'. So again, you have to be consistent for the sake of your child's feelings and to be effective. Hope that helps! Good luck.

I agree with Isaac's mom...  When Isabella learned to do this  I just kept going in and laying her back down and saying night night...  It didn't take her long to learn how to get herself back down.
