Has anyone else had problems with almost 8 month olds going off their solids?

Yup.  Pain in the you-know-what, but it seems to ALWAYS coincide with teething (how many teeth do they get again???? ).  Pain killers help a bit, but I mostly just have to wait it out.

As long as she's still taking enough formula or breastmilk, don't worry about it...it's totally normal for solids appetite to vary. Try your best to go with the flow and respect her appetite (or lack thereof  ), and she'll be back on track before you know it!

Usually happened while he was teething :D .  Just keep offering and she will eat when she is hungry.

mine too.. but apparently she has been off for a very long time for almost 5 weeks... is that due to teething too?  once in a blue moon she will eat well then off the next???

Let's see...Megan started getting her first tooth when she was about 7 months old...she's now almost 10 months...  We've had a couple of days or weeks here or there when her teeth didn't seem to be bugging her and she didn't have a cold and she wasn't overtired....and she'd actually eat well! But most of the time she hasn't!

Thanks all for your messages. I waited it out and just kept offering her food and she is now eating well again- must have been her gums. She has been teething since a very young age but still no sign of her first tooth!

Im so glad its not just me! I was wondering why Joel had gone off his food because normally he eats so well. I can see the 2 teeth in the top of his gums so they must be playing him up.

Hi everyone,

I am so glad to hear that around 8 months some babies go off of their food.  My DS is 8 months and he started going off of his food this past weekend.  His cheeks are really red, and he has had a low grade fever.  I don't know if it is his first molars coming in but I was worried that something was wrong.  DS has 8 teeth 4 top and 4 bottom so his first molars are next.  The first 8 weren't so bad and he didn't have a fever or red cheeks with them, just a little crankiness but I think that these molars are going to hurt a little more.  I am going to keep an eye on him though and hope that it's just teeth and not something else.  If he's not better in a couple days we are going to head to the doctor.  He seems to be better today so I'll cross my fingers and see how he is tomorrow.

FYI, every time Megan has teething troubles, she gets a fever - and not the low grade one that they tell you about!  Last time it was 102!  It only lasted 2 days and she wouldn't eat and would hold her head and cry, but once the fever was gone, the teething pain also seemed improved.

Hi redstartfalling,

My DS's fever was gone today and he has started to act like himself again.  He was playing today more then he did all weekend.  He isn't napping well though and when he woke up today he would cry and nothing would console him.  I gave him half a dose of tempra and he was much better after that.  I can't wait until this teething is over

Tell me about it!  HOW many teeth do they get again??? :(

And I found Infant Motrin worked WAY better for teething pain than Tylenol.

My DS won't take Tempra so maybe I should get some Motrin and try it.  He fights like crazy with me when I try to give him any.  What is the flavour of Infant Motrin?

I think it's cherry - it's a non-staining one, which I like much better than the Tempra.  My dd seems to like it and she's incredibly fussy!  She hated Tempra - still does.

Reading these posts is like readiang about my daughter and what she is going through right now.  She cries unconsolably, is not eating her solids and her naps are way off  :(  . I guess I just have to ride this one out and try to confort her.

Thanks Redstartfalling, I'll go out and get some Motrin tomorrow.  The banana flavour isn't so bad I have been able to get him to take a bit of it, but not enough to last.

Thanks,
jen
