Can you give TOO much Calcium??
« on: August 06, 2005, 22:24:29 pm »
I was just wondering whether you can actually give your baby too much calcium based foods.

My dd is 9.5 months old and has 3 x 7-8oz bottles per day, has yoghurt with baby cereal for breakfast or nutrigrain bar or cheerios, then she will have yoghurt and fruit after her lunch or instead of if she wont eat her savoury stuff, then she loves chunks of cheese which she would eat and eat!!!! and maybe yoghurt again at dinner

Is it too much?

Sometimes dairy food can be constipating, so keep an eye out for that. At this point, I wouldn't worry too much about it, since most of her nutrition still comes from formula (although you do still want to make sure to introduce her to a variety of foods). Once she graduates to whole milk and is no longer getting formula, you'll probably have to limit her dairy intake to ensure she's getting a more balanced diet.

If she isn't interested in other foods, like savories, keep offering...it often takes many, many tries to get LOs to accept certain foods. Her likes and dislikes are still developing, so you never know what she might try!

Thanks. She has tried most foods and at lunch times I give a pretty varied menu but she only seems to want to take a few scoops and thats it...she is definitely more interested in stuff she can pick up but with still no teeth at almost 10 months she is getting frustrated

Still I will persevere, thanks

If she's into yogurt, you can always try using yogurt as a "sauce" for whatever she isn't too interested in. I'm always amazed by what kind of seemingly gross food combinations Tyler loves!
