I can't keep up with you all.  I'm so glad for the great response on the pictures.  It really helps to identify with you even more to be able to see "the world you live in".  Alot of you seem to live near water.  I think that would be wonderful.  We have a lot of nice lakes.  Dh and I used to go frequently when he fished, but none of that since Kelsey.  He even sold his boat because he wasn't getting to use it, and we could use the money.
Julieb and Branwen-great new pics of Asher and Eirwen.

Get this...Dh is of the mind that we should go ahead with #2 in order to get all the "bad stuff" over with all together.  I think not.  I'd rather give it a few years and forget about it, plus I'd like Kelsey to be a bit self-sufficient before I have to care for another baby.  What about you all?

Love the photos everyone!!

Tarri - if i put her in at 9 am she is in there awake or asleep until 10:30 UNLESS she starts crying a get me out cry.  if she sleeps for 45 min and wakes and chats i don't go in and wait to see if she will eventually go back to sleep.  if she is squealing and staring at hands etc i just leave her.  at 10:30 i go in and star next cycle. if she sleeps 1 hr 30 i get her up as soon as i hear her chatting.  rarely goes more than 1hr 30.  she is generally a very happy kid so she only cries when in pain, extremely overtired or getting p*ssed off (and then it is a gentle escalation communicating "i want out")

Heather - tell your Dh that is exactly what we did.  i wanted kids around 2 years apart (my sister and i were 3 1/2 yrs and never close after she hit puberty   until now when we are reconnecting in our 30s) childcare costs are insane here and i did not have a "career" so to speak - so we decided to hav kids close in age and me stay at home for 3-5 years depending on how things went.  in 6 months i think i am going to be really loving it - taking the girls to the beach and playing in the backyard...  :D  but the first 6 months were SOOOOO hard as you know especially with no help!

Heather: DH wanted our children as close as possible (he and his siblings are close in age).  I would like them 4-5 years apart.  We have compromised on 3.5 (we will start the summer after Asher turns 2).  After several of our friends and my brother have all recently had their 2nd children, he's fully on board with waiting!     It's been pretty rough for everyone, a lot to balance!

Also fueling my fire is Dr. Kevin Leman (author of The New Birth Order Book, host of Parent Talk radio, appearances on The View), a popular family psychiatrist who says the "ideal" spacing is between 3-4 years.  They're old enough to be more indepent and understand what's going on, but not so old to be disconnected from their sibling.

Although, Dr. Leman has also said having a first born girl is the easiest sibling arrangement.  So it may be just fine having them closer since you already have a girl!  He says girls make better big sisters than boys make big brothers.  Does that make sense?  I've noticed this is quite true in MANY families I know.  Most of these families have an oldest daughter.

To all true Canadians - I miss the snow!! Not really the cold. Loved skiing etc and as you know we don't have much skiing in South Africa either. Our winter has been pretty mild - long sleeves and maybe a "summer"coat.

Re starting with NR2: I don't know - I am kindof "in 2 minds" about it. My DH was also saying - lets get it over with ... ooooh  but I don't know!!! I am pretty lucky with the help I have here (full time domestic worker/trainee childminder) and my mom AND mother in law very close by. so ... maybe we should start trying when Lise is a year old?

us/ Last night we had a goodnight but we are really starting to struggle again with naps during the day ... I think I will post our very flexable routine for some advice?

 6:00 - Awake and chatters ... if she gets to noisy I will pick up into bed with us ( ) I know!! but she will then maybe sleep untill 7:00
 7:00 - FF and then playing ... I am trying to stretch to 2.5hours awake but that just means I have to entertain her after about and hour
 9:00/9:30 - NAP - again started waking up after 45min. Usually at this nap my mom looks after her so I can get my work done (I work on my parents wine farm) I think my mom does not really understand the going in at 30min and waiting at least 20min!! Different parenting styles in 2005!!
 10:15 she is awake and THERE GOES THE DAY!

We will then try and work the day ... only thing that we keep fixed is the FF every 4hrs and she now has some solids (cereal) at around 5 or 5:30 (depending on afternoon 30 min nap)

Well - will see if we can get her nap a little longer her next nap.

Nikki, I'm also having afternoon nap problems.  And I usually have night wakings.  So this morning I've resolved to keep her up two full hours after I turn the lights on in the morning.  I did it for the first time this morning and boy was it HARD work, she kept rubbing her eyes like crazy but I kept her going.  What do you do for A time?  Emily woke at 6:30 this morning so I didn't put her in bed till 8:30 where normally I would have only waited till 8:15.  She went down with no crying or patting.  I'm hoping this might fix her 2 catnaps in the afternoon :? .

Also, I have to share that Emily slept thru till 6:30 this morning!!!! :o  :D  :D   And she didn't wake for a dreamfeed until 10:00 (the last week it's been 8:30).  I'm thinking it's maybe the solids I gave for supper the first time.  Or maybe it's all the tylenol cause she had her shots yeterday.  Hmmm.

Heather,  we're trying to figure out when to have LO #2.  Although I really don't think I'll be able to handle it.  I think we'll wait till I think we're starting to get a little lower maintenance on #1 and then try.

Have a good day everyone, Tarri

Nikki, I am by no means a nap expert.  Lord knows I've really struggled with Kelsey's naps.  However, I find I'm better at giving suggestions to others, so here's my thoughts.  You might need to consider that if she's waking around 6, even though she's in her crib and chatting, she's awake, and if she doesn't go back to sleep with you, then by 9 she's been up for 3 hours.  Even after waking at 7, that's 2 hours, and for a lot of babies, 2 hours in the morning is a lot.  I often have to remind myself of this when I hear Kelsey cooing around 7:30, but I don't go in until 8 or so.  Sometimes, I have to put her down earlier because she technically woke earlier.  Anyway, several of us tried a suggestion of putting baby down 1 hour after wake up time, and it worked for me.  Granted this might be hard to figure for you if she's waking at 6, but has to eat at 7, but if she falls back asleep you should be able to manage.  I may have actually waited 1.5 hours, but I found that the more rested she is from the night's sleep, the easier it is for her to nap.  Then with the first nap being good, the second one is even better (2 hours sometimes).  So now for us, I get her around 8:15, and she's down for a nap at 10, if not earlier.
Tarri, Kelsey also slept like a pro after shots and tylenol, and I thought I was in heaven.  You might want to try what I suggested above if lengthing A time doens't work.  I don't want to step on anyone's toes since I know that is what many BWs suggest, but it backfired on me, especially for the first nap.  If I keep her up to long, she can't sleep, and I'm left with an overtired, cranky baby, and the rest of the day is screwed up.
I'm glad to read your imput on having #2.  I know my personality, and what I am capable of.  Dh doesn't consider, I don't think, that I like to have control of my situations, and having a baby has thrown that out the window, and it's been a hard thing for me to adjust to.  I don't think I could handle a baby and a small toddler, especially like Debra said for the first 6 months.  If they started like Kelsey is now, I might could handle it.  Or if my mom retires and could help me full time (she's great, but back to work now), I'd do it.
Hope you all have a great day.

Alright ladies. There seem to be so many newbies that I know I am getting confused. I saw this on the Oct.-Dec. Chat board and thought it would be neat to do. By no means do I want this to become a competition, but I thought it is a quick way to find out where everyone is at and get to know everyone just a bit better. Just copy and paste mine, then change to fill in for yourself - if you want too!  :D

Rolling - Yes, both ways
Crawling - No, but spins around on her belly
Breast or Formula - Formula, 5 bottles/day Every 3.5 hours
Solids - Twice a day around 8:00 and 5:30
Sleeping thru the night - Not yet, one or two night wakings, on a bad night 4-5
Naps - morning (9), afternoon (Between 12-1), and catnap (4:30) Somedays they are 45 min, somedays 2 hours!
Sitting unassisted - for a few minutes, then loses her balance
Teeth - Two bottom center ones, getting the bottom eye teeth too
Dreamfeed - Attempting to wean, but it has brought on a night feed instead
Morning wake up time - between 6-7
Bedtime - Between 7-7:45
Favorite toy - plain old link-a-doodle rings
Favorite Activity - Going for walks in the stroller and going to the grocery store - think she likes the lights they have there!
Lovie - Yes, receiving blanket
Excema - Yes, on her face
Back or Belly - Sleeps on her back, but has been rolling to her side lately
Swaddle - I wrap her arms for naps, but not at bedtime
Paci - Oh yes, but only at naptime and bedtime
Weight/Height - at 6 month checkup she was 18'10 and 28 inches!
Eye/Hair color - Blue eyed Blondie, like her mommy!
Work or SAHM - Teacher, SAHM during the summer

Mmmm, that's all I can think of. I wanted to post some things that we all have been chatting about lately and a few for fun. Feel free to add things!

Heather - re #2... we decided we wanted ours close together - after jaina was born we also knew we only wanted to have 2!!   knowing how i felt, i wanted to get everything done with at once; if i waited i figure jaina may have been an only.

i got pg 2 weeks after her 1st birthday, so they're 20 months apart.  it was a really rough 4 months or so, mainly cause he was much harder to sleep-train.  but i had help - #1 was still going to daycare every morning.

that was our take on it anyhow

It has been a rough couple of days, Branwen, thanks for thinking of me.  And somehow I stopped getting the emails that a new post was up.  We're on a roller coaster - 2 so-so days, 1 good day, and 1 crappy day.  We had a pretty decent weekend, all things considered.  Monday was awesome; she was in a great mood and took really good naps.  Yesterday went downhill.  She was whiny and clingy, not happy unless I was holding her.  There were times when I literally could not set her down or she would scream.  Add in what we think is teething, and it makes for a fun day.  Today is starting out the same way.

But making matters worse, I have a deadline on a project today.  My boss/client called yesterday to discuss it, and it happened to be during one of her screaming fits.  And that's ok, part of my arrangement is that I am not available for calls unless scheduled in advance (this one wasn't, and he understood), but it makes me feel unprofessional nonetheless.

I am just feeling pulled in many different directions right now, and I am exhausted.

But on to more fun topics... Maya's stats...

Rolling - Yes, both ways
Crawling - No
Breast or Formula - BF, 5x day roughly every 3 hours
Solids - Twice a day, morning (time varies) and when we have dinner
Sleeping thru the night - Yes (7:30pm - 6am)
Naps - morning (~8-8:30am), afternoon (~11:30am-noonish), and catnap (~3-3:30pm) Somedays they last 45 min, somedays 2 hours!
Sitting unassisted - for a few minutes, then loses her balance
Teeth - None
Dreamfeed - Never tried
Morning wake up time - 6ish lately
Bedtime - Between ~7:30pm
Favorite toy - the worm with the partially visible guts (long story, and yes, we have a somewhat warped sense of humor exacerbated by insufficient sleep)
Favorite Activity - Going for walks in the carrier or  stroller and going to Target (I think she likes the flourescent lighting and bright colors)
Lovie - No
Excema - No
Back or Belly - Sleeps on her back, and has a nice flat spot on her head to show for it!
Swaddle - No
Paci - Yes, but only in crib for nap/bedtime and only when fussy
Weight/Height - at 6 month checkup she was 15lb 9oz and 26.5"
Eye/Hair color - Brown hair, brown eyes (fabulous lashes!)
Work or SAHM - SAHM working part-time from home

And I'd post a picture of our hometown, but I realized upon looking that we have none!  We've been here a year, but we've spent all of our time working on our house and taking care of Maya.  The closest I could come was our Xmas card photo from last year - dh and I (7.5 mos preg) in front of our house.  We need to get out more!

Regarding baby #2, we're really anxious as dd has been pure heaven.  But we don't want another winter baby - we found we were a little confined to the house the first weeks (I was losing my mind).  So it's looking like it'll be when Kinlagh is 2 and a bit.  So April/May 2007 which means trying next summer.  I can't wait!

As for the list - great idea!!  I've also added a couple of new ones below

Rolling - Yes, both ways but better at back to belly
Crawling - Not yet, she too spins around on her belly like Leah
Breast or Formula - Formula, 4 bottles per day, every 4 hours
Solids - 3xday after daytime bottles including cereal, 5 veggies and 3 fruit so far
Sleeping thru the night - Yes, since 7 weeks with the dreamfeed
Naps - morning (9-10), afternoon (1-2), and catnap (4:30) Ditto on the "Somedays they are 45 min, somedays 2 hours" comment
Sitting unassisted - pretty much with the occasional tumble
Teeth - Two bottom center ones, and the top left eye tooth looking like it's next
Dreamfeed - We dropped it 2 weeks ago
Morning wake up time - between 7-7:30 (get up 7:30-8 )
Bedtime - Between 7-7:45
Favorite toy - A plush banana is the toy of the day (and all teething rings)
Favorite Activity - Anything with daddy.  He's so funny!!  And her bathtime in her new blowup duck tub.
Lovie - Not really.  But she occasionally cuddles with a plush dog named Pokey
Excema - Yes, all over.  What a battle.
Back or Belly - We put her down on her back and she flips to her belly before we leave the room.  Often is on her side when we peek in on her.
Swaddle - Not since 5 months old.
Paci - Her thumb
Weight/Height - at 6 month checkup she was 18'8 and 27 inches
Eye/Hair color - Blue eyed brunette
Work or SAHM - Still on mat leave (us canadians get 1 year) but will return to work as a CRA (Pharmaceutical Research) in January 2006
