Debra, sorry your lo is having such nose difficulties.  And I wanted to let you know that Emily drinks only 26 to 30 oz total a day.  And she weighs at least 17 lbs so your lo's consumption sounds good to me.  Every day she only drinks 3-5oz for her second meal and then is starved for her next meal.

Also, I know what you mean about sneezes, everytime Emily sneezes I say good girl and give her lots of tickles, now she smiles everytime she sneezes cause she knows its a good thing.  Then I can get those boogers out!  But she has nothing like what your going thru.

You've probably already thought of this but just in case it's food allergies, maybe you could try a different formula?  I'm in the middle of switching brands (I'm changing by 2 oz every 3 days) and I think she's doing better because her poo is more yellowy and more like her old bf poos.

Well, tomorrow I'm off to the big city (Toronto) to see my parents and my Dad's family are visiting from England.  My cousin has a 7 month old so this will be the first time Emily will be with another baby.  I hope it goes okay and that she doesn't cry long in the car like last time.

Have a good day everyone!  Tarri  (PS, I added some pictures in the photo gallery)

Deborah -
Olivia is extremely distracted during feeds - we have always battled this (at least now we can feed with the light on).  I keep trying to offer food out of her room at least every so often, but she always does better in her room.  If alex makes any noise she just stops feeding....  she also loves to look at the lights.

Also, "milk in her sinses" is something the SP mentioned to have investigated - she said some milk could be going up through her palate if it is not sealed??  properly.  even if the shape is right it might be leaking through.  fun.  will be checking  that too.

Tarri - cute photos.  when was your Dh birthday - my Dh's is today!
Olivia has green poo and suffers from constipation - I hhave thought abot changing formula but it seemed to start before the bottle so cannot remember.

alex is begging for cuddles so have to go.  have a good trip to Toronto.

So now that I look at Leah's picture next to Matty's, I notice that they both have the same expression - "What are you doing mommy? What is that shiny silver thing you're pointing at me!?!?!" Leah has such a cute smile, but the minute I break out the camera she looks at me with this puzzled look and WILL NOT smile!

very cute photo!!

I forgot to mention in earlier post that Olivia has been sitting up this week.  she uses her right hand to steady and will play with toys i put infront of her + Alex's old FP walker...

also on top of the "nightmare"?? last night Olivia woke at 4:50am crying and i thought she was looking for food (still growth spurt?) but she was not interested, tried warming the room as it was freezing last night,  finally at 5:30 i thought of pain relief since she seems to be teething this week - sure enough she settled as soon as we gotback to our room and slept until 7:30 and woke up happy.  I am so not ready to start having teething troubles - we are always trying to get "on track"  hopefully she will not be lilke Alex who takes anywhere up to 2-3 mo for each tooth to finally arrive afetr the discomfort starts (we have a lot of that popping up and returning to below the surface with dd1)

Well hello everyone.  What a fun thread.  I can't believe I've just discovered it today.  To introduce myself, my name is Michelle and DD (as you see below) is just over 6.5 months.  Her birthday was January 19, 2005.

Alot of the issues brought up above sound VERY familiar so I'm sure I'll be able to add some thoughts here and there.  Here's what's going on in my home with my 6 month old DD:
- She's definitely teething.  Has two front bottom in and an eye tooth on the way.  The eye tooth is bothering her much more than the bottom two.
- Just dropped the dreamfeed on Friday.  So far so good.
- She started the separation anxiety thing on Monday I'd say (cries when I leave the room or am out of sight).  Stranger anxiety is hit and miss.
- Having issues with am waketime.  Seems to be getting earlier and earlier, but varies daily.  So tough on the daily routine!
- Some days 2 naps, some days 2.5 naps and other days she has 3.  (Excpet for yesterday where she had 4 mini-naps cause they weren't any longer than 30-45 mins each - we won't ever mention yesterday again!!)
- pfew, there's lots happening at 6 months isn't there?

We'll be chatting soon.  Looking forward to comparing notes and learning from all of you.
Michelle

Welcome Michelle!

Yeah, love those new teeth.  Got BIT TWICE today!      Like little razors, they are!  I yelped like a puppy!

Going for night 3 of the wake-to-sleep to get rid of early AM wake ups.  This morning he was already awake when I tried to sneak in at 5 AM (looked at me, too!).  That little bugger!  Off to bed now!  :D

We started solids at 4.5 months as per dr recommendations.  Actually he recommended them at 4 months but we were delayed 2 weeks in starting.  So yes, she's established on 3 meals a day for 2 months with cereal, veggies and a few fruit.  She hates fruit though so we only get in a few bites each time.

Welcome Michelle!  My dd's birthday is January 13.  And I agree - yesterday is best forgotten.  The first two naps were great, but then I had to wake her from her second nap (she is normally up by 1pm, and she was still asleep at 2pm!), and she was cranky the rest of the day.  She screamed when it was time for her catnap and again at bedtime.

The BW website is acting up and I can't see the little topic review window so I'll have to try and remember what everyone said.

Deb - I'm not sure what the SP meant about a sealed palate, but everything is connected, and they can still get milk in the sinuses even if that's not an issue.  Maya's problem had to do with how I was holding her as I fed her.  I needed to prop her head up more (they said to keep her head above the level of her hips).

And she's up again.

I've got another puzzler for you ladies.  Maya's been a handful the last two days, getting crankier and crankier as the day goes on despite good naps (at least yesterday).  Starting with her late afternoon nap yesterday, she screamed when it was time to put her down.  She wound up screaming (in my arms) until it was time for her next feeding.  She fell asleep while eating.  When she was done, I gently woke her and put her in her crib.  She fussed a bit, then slept for ~30 minutes.

At bedtime, she did the same thing.  I finished her last feed, and as I lifted the pillow out from under her, she started crying.  She screamed (panicky, loud crying) for about twenty minutes, and then finally calmed down enough that I could tuck her in.  That was about 8pm, and she slept until about 4am.

Today it started again with her first nap.  She cried for 10-15 minutes before she would settle down to sleep (then only slept 45 minutes).  At her next naptime, she screamed for 20 minutes straight, then off and on (mostly on) for another 40.

What's the deal?  This happened once before, but it was when MIL was visiting and continued through a visit to my folks.  It lasted about 3-1/2 weeks, but we chalked it up to overstimulation, sleep deprivation, and disruption of routine.  When we got home, it took her about a day to readjust, and she has been fine since.  I can't do this again.  Listening to her cry just sucks the energy right out of me, and I want to sit there and cry with her.  Has this happened with anyone else?

Hi Michelle- welcome to our chat :D

Deborah- how many naps do you have these days?  I am working on consolidating Eirwen's morning nap right now.  It's hard, but I noticed similiar behavior a week ago and then the naps are getting shorter and we're off and miserable.  I think I am going to have to just start forcing her to be awake longer so nap times won't be so difficult...like this afternoon I "forced" her (distracted really with shopping, car ride, etc) and she was up 2.5 hrs and is now so crashed, I even had workers come in for estimates, tramble around and she didn't make a peep! Where did my touchy baby go?! Yeah, right!  So many issues lately, so whiney...

Just to let you know that you're not alone in the suffering.

Deborah: do you think she may be teething?

Well done to Olivia on the sitting!!  :D

Matty is gorgeous!

Welcome Michelle!

Luka has been doing the same thing as Maya. Last night was AWFUL! He hardly slept. Screamed when we put him in his cot. Screamed when we put him in our bed. Eventually fell asleep on my chest, slept for an hour and woke up screaming again. We gave him some Calpol and he slept again till 6am. So we had a grandtotal of 3 hours sleep. I feel very sorry for dh.

I mean it can't be developmental can it? He's been 'crawling' for a week now, so that should be done with.
I feel so despondent about the night wakings, it's been going on for 3 weeks, and doesn't seem to be getting better. Wake to sleep wont' work coz it's not at the same time every night.
Anyway....

It's nice to know I'm not alone.

Schae - I'm not sure if it's teething.  We've been thinking she's teething for about 6 weeks now, but with no actual teeth to show for it.  She chews on EVERYTHING she can get into her mouth.  Sometimes when she's fussy, chewing on a cold washcloth seems to help.  We've tried Tylenol when she's been super fussy, and sometimes it seems to help.  Somebody recommended Motrin, but I want to give it to her when she's going to be awake, and I can watch her to make sure she doesn't have any sort of reaction.

Branwen - She has two proper naps (1-2 hours each) and a catnap (~45 minutes), but the catnap is not always the last nap of the day.  The first nap is usually good (~2 hours), but if her second nap is short, she sometimes sleeps longer for her late afternoon "catnap".  I don't think she's ready to drop the catnap yet.  She would be up too long before bedtime.  I think I've mentioned before we're caught in that rough space when she's ready for a four-hour routine sleep-wise, but not feedwise.  I've also kept her up for up to 2.5 hours, but usually to keep her on track after a short nap.

She was up last night too, around 4am.  She talked to herself for a while, but I'm not sure if she feel back asleep (I did).  By 5:15am, she was quite vocally demanding to be fed.  Usually, she's not up until 6 or 7am.
