OMG i miss everybody!!!!!!  i only have a little bit of time here & there to check in and like Christine i feel so lost when there are 3 pages of posts to catch up on!!!!  hoping things will settle down soon and i can check in more frequently...

the new pictures are adorable.  i can't belive some of these babies are crawling already!!  luke is still working on sitting.  he's gotten very steady, but then when he reaches for something sometimes he just plops on over.  he's getting very interested in the pincer grip, and very frustrated when his fingers don't work quite the way he wants them to.

Heather - jaina hated tummy time too... she eventually learned to crawl from a sitting position - she would lean forward to get something & eventually would start to move her body in a weird sort of crawling way.  luke doesn't seem to have any interest whatsoever.  he also i think would prefer to just stand & walk & get on with it!!

for all those who are teething - i hear ya!  luke has been working on a tooth for the past week & it's making his afternoon nap HORRIBLE!!  wish the darn thing would just poke through.  schae, motrin is the brand name for ibuprofin.  it does last longer than tylenol, but it is stronger.

food wise, luke is starting to be more interested in cereal... kind of!  we're just taking our time & seeing how it goes.

anyhow, sorry i can't respond more personally at the moment, but i hope this week is much better for everyone!!!

Christine: You can copy & paste text from someone's post, then select the text and hit the "quote" button at the top of the text box OR in the top right corner of everyone's post is a "quote" button. Right click that to open in a new window to start your post with someone else's quoted post (which is what I did). Then I just deleted out the text I didn't need. Make sense?

Just practicing!  :D

One thing I forgot to mention about the crawling...  I'm not one to worry about what Asher is or isn't doing, or in a rush usually, but once he started rolling both ways, I was VERY anxious to get him moving (via rolling, crawling, whatever).  He was one frustrated little guy for the first half of his life and I KNEW he'd be a whole lot more content if he could move himself around.  We also had such struggles with naps, every day, every time.  A few friends told me their LOs started napping better once they were mobile -- like it tuckered them out better.  So that's why emphasized the floor time and nixed all stationary toys.  And what do you know?  He started rolling proficiently at 4.5 months and scooting with a vengeance at 5 months.  And at the same time, his naps magically got a heck of a lot better and he was suddenly a happy little guy!  :D   Now sitting independently, that's another story!     But with all this movin' & shakin' going on, who has time for that!      I know he'll figure it out in time though, so I don't sweat it.

Schae: Hope Luka feels better soon!  I was afraid for the first time Asher would get sick.  I thought he'd be a bear!  He was a perfect, cuddly, sleepy little angel!  I LOVED it!     I'm embarrassed to say I wish he was sick more often!

Hi all
My baby was born 4 march so ... I kinda fall inbetween with some questions... I would like to know if anyone had experienced seperation anxiety at 5month already. We were suppose to go away for a long weekend and Lise suddenly did not want to stay with my mom - even for an hour - and she's used to spending entire mornings with her while I work!! My mom phoned me and asked me to come home as she was crying inconsolably - and if my mom phones!!! she is very competent (lise was a colicky baby so she knows crying!!) So baby went with one the weekend. I now plan a NIGHT away and was hoping someone has a miracle cure other than playing peek-a-bo?? Thanks all

So many replies since last check.

Christine:  Kinlagh's meals are as follows.
Breakfast - 2-4 tbsp cereal + fruit (whatever she'll eat cause it's not her favorite, usually 1tbsp maximum)
Lunch - 2-3 tbsp veggie + fruit (again, whatever she'll eat) and later I'll add meat here
Supper - 2-4 tbsp cereal + 2-3 tbsp veggie and now starting a little fruit for desert.  (later I'll add dairy here)
And these are all about 20-30 minutes after her 5-8oz bottle (usually 8 )

Heather:  Maybe your lo will be one of the lucky ones that wakes one morning with 2 teeth and no signs of teething.  Wouldn't that be nice?!?  Never heard of "yo-baby" yogourt?  How is it different from regular yogourt?  As for the strait to walking comment, I was just talking to a friend last night with an 18 month old and her lo went straight to walking.  Did not like crawling.  So guess it's not as uncommon as we think.  I think Kinlagh is heading that way too.  She's been supporting her own weight for months!

Schae & Julie:  How cute the pics of your dc crawling.  I can't wait!!  We just bought all our babyproofing supplies yesterday.  Oh and thanks for the tummy time advice Julie.

Tarri:  Good, another lo with an eye tooth.  Did you find it more painful than the others?

Us:  Things are settling down a little bit now.  The teething has subsided (for now) and my ILs are just leaving.  But I'm sure poor Kinlagh will be bored with just mom.  She had so much fun having new people around.  And DH and I got to have 2 nights out this week.  Wow - that's unheard of around here.  How nice!

How are all of you dealing with the separation anxiety thing?  The other night, I was out running errands only to find out when I got back, that poor Kinlagh was crying for her mommy.  I don't want to not go out, but I also don't want to leave DH or others with a crying baby either.  Any advice?
Michelle

PS - to whoever was talking about putting medicine in the bottle.... you're right, it is risky since you don't know if they will finish it.

what has worked for us in the past is to unscrew the nipple, pour some milk into it & then put it in baby's mouth.  while he's eating, use the medicine dropper & squirt the meds in the milk.  if need be, keep adding milk until he takes all the medicine.  that way it masks the yucky taste & he gets the entire dose.

Jaime - it was me with the medicine issue.  that is a good idea.  we will try it next time.  she just gets so upset when we try it with the dropper that if i need to give it to her at night (ie.  around Df - i would rather slip it in the bottle than get her riled up with meds)...  will se if we can manage that without spilling the milk all over her

Michelle - i am not sure how else to deal with sep anxiety - i am just trying to tell her when i am going away for a few minutes and then return and say "here i am".  i haven't even played peek a boo much yet.

Us: had my first "morning run" for Alex with no one here to stay with Olivia.  I got there very early and was waiting at the doors (they will not open before exactly 9am) by the time we got home and Liv in bed (9:15) she had been awake since 6:45 and out of her cot since 7am (so it is around 2hr 15 - 2hr 30 awake time) it has been 15 min and she is now sucking fiercely - she only took 4 oz (110ml) at breakfast so never sure if hunger or overtired now - fingers crossed she gets to sleep - i need to feel that i can manage this on Mondays as Alex loves going to care for the morning and gets SO much out of the experience.

PS -= before i got to send this Liv was alseep - took her 15-20 min with settling herself with squeals and then sucking - let's see how long she sleeps now that i was forced to try our longest awake time in the am! Good job Livvy!

Deb - I also had Leah awake until 9:30 this morning, with an awake time of 7:00. 2 1/2 hours of awake time, she then slept till 11:00.  I know it's only an hour and a half, but that's alot for us!

Julie - I was also told DD may start to sleep better once she is mobile. She always takes better naps when she has had a lot of activity before hand.

Michelle - Thanks for the info on Kinlagh's meals. Very helpful.

JulieB and Schae: way to go babies!  those pics are adorable.

Matty is just getting on all fours now and rocking, then he flops down on his tummy. I read recently that babies are crawling later or not at all since so many are sleeping on their backs instead of their tummies for safety.  I dont know if thats true, but Matty is definitely not yet crawling - he's a good roller though!

Debra:  what formula are you feeding her? It really sounds like milk allergy. would you mind posting or pm'ing me her symptoms?

Nikki welcome.

I havent seen the separation anxiety but I hope it doesnt happen one morning when Im going off to work!  uh oh!  He's been with my sitter since he was 5 weeks old, so I hope that helps some!  He does have stranger anxiety now and thats a bummer.  He cries with my family members and friends who adore him but obviously dont see him everyday.

As far as mothers go, I have to admit I'm jealous of you guys who have moms around.  Matty's doesnt have a grandma.  I miss my mother terribly and it makes me so sad that she will never get to meet him.   :(

Hugs to everyone

Hi everyone!

Hi Nikki welcome! and also for Michelle-For separation anxiety- Eirwen has started actively reaching for me now with two arms- the cutest thing, but when I can't be with her or hold her she gets very whiney and pouty, and all out crying at some naps.  I heard that you can give them a blanket or shirt with your scent on it and that is supposed to help but I haven't tried yet.  She really likes the game of me leaving to get something and the returning from somewhere else.  It's really cute how surprised she is to see me come from "no where". She kicks and wiggles.  I read in the book re: touchy babies to always explain what you are going to do, but this is working for us well with the sep. anxiety too.  I tell her "mama is going to the bathroom now I'll be right back," and so forth.  I also heard to establish a goodbye ritual and practice it with them.  I have never had to leave her (except after bedtime) so I haven't made one yet.

JulieB- I too secretly loved when Eirwen had a cold...she was so cuddly and needy.

Heather- Yes that was me you were reassuring!! It's okay, she'll do stuff when she is ready! (telling myself this too constantly since she doesn't even roll).  The pictures of little ones crawling make it so hard not to feel worried on some level but I know she is fine.  My friend's 12 month old crawled at 11 months.  But I agree with Julie that the delays are often due to back sleeping recommendations for SIDS prevention.  Crawling, rolling and pushing up are all delayed because of back sleeping.  It's not always the case though but I myself was a very early crawler and walked alone at 11 months- I was a tummy sleeper unlike Eirwen.  Eirwen got herself onto her side yesterday from tummy position (no problem doing this from back)...big accomplishment for us :D I'm letting her get a little more frustrated than usual so she can try to figure it out...but I always get her before she cries.  she just hates it so much

Us- no further signs of teething :? kind of confused. except she isn't eating as well so I gave baby oragel and she seemed to eat better. She was out and about for 2 hrs yesterday and didn't make a peep.  Got this hip hammok carrier for her now and she really loves it :D had a great time riding with dh yesterday in it.  She is starting to really respond to him more which I love.  There was even a moment yesterday where she was fussing with me and dh walked into the room and she busted out this enormous smile and a chuckle "haaaa".  So funny!  I have been waiting for the moment when "only daddy can make it better." :D

Branwen, Olivia is like this with Jeff.  As soon as he comes home or enters a room she follows him with her eyes and will bend and twist to try to get him to look her way.  i already tell him she seems like she will be a "Daddy's girl".

i think we are definitely having both sep anxiety and teething.  a little of both today.  the teething happened for 3rd nap and she would not stop screaming and crying. when i finally gave her panadol she stopped S & C within 5 minutes.  unfortunately she refused to give in on the sleep and was up from 2:15 - bedtime at 7:20pm she did well in spite of the lost nap (she also woke form 2nd nap after 1 hr 15 to have a nasty poop so total daytime sleep today was 2 hrs!!!)

I can't believe I just did that.  I spent an hour catching up and posting a reply, and I accidentally closed the window before I posted!  I'll have to come back later.
