Lying flat to drink a bottle
« on: August 09, 2005, 20:33:15 pm »
I know that you're not suppose to feed a baby a bottle when they are lying flat on thier back, but what about when they start holding the bottle themselves? DD is "practicing" this and it only works when she is lying on the floor. Anyone else let thier babies lie flat to eat occasionaly? Will it cause ear infections at this age?

Hi Christine,

I used to put dd on a soft cusion or in between a 'v' pillow so that her head was raised slightly, this used to work for me as my main concern lying her flat was choking!

Thanks! That's a great idea. I'll give it a try tomorrow. It's so fun to watch her try to hold her own bottle! She grabs it and then trys to get it in her mouth, but usually misses and hits herself in the head!

DS is holding his own bottle now occasionally too ... lack of effort on his part due to lazyness I think.  He will sit up or lie down to drink, but is using the sippy too, so that helps.  SO, yes, I let him lie flat if he wants.
