How do I know if breast is empty?
« on: August 14, 2005, 21:10:03 pm »
For the past few nights my DD (11 weeks) has wanted to eat for a long time the last feed before bedtime.  It seems like there isn't enough milk for her on one side.  I want to keep her on one side to make sure she empties it but I think she needs more after that.  How do I know when to switch her?  She will still swallow but after many sucks.

Since it is that last feed, do you think it is for comfort?

I switched to double side feeding around 3 months. And he only took the second time about once, maybe twice, per day.

My ds is about the same age, I single side feed for most feeds, but have always offered the 2nd side at night time, as this is his longest stretch & have no problems, sometimes he takes some, others not... I think they suck for longer at that last feed as it is a calming thing & helps them go longer at night... my ds#1 did that also.
