BIG TROUBLE!! 10 mo old won't go down w/out breast HELP!
« on: August 16, 2005, 13:45:42 pm »
I have just finished reading one of Tracy Hogg's books and I realize that I am in big trouble. My 10 month old nurses to sleep for all her naps and at nite time. She wakes up 2-3 times per night and won't go down unless I nurse her back to sleep. She was a very sleepy baby and I could never get her to stay awake long enough to feed well, so I ended up nursing her like every hour for the fist 6 weeks. I was terrified that she wasn't getting enough to eat. Once she started staying awake longer, it gave me a break but I didn't know how to put her down for a nap in her crib without her screaming so I continued to nurse her down every time.

So, baby not only can't go to sleep w/out breast, but she also can't sooth herself back to sleep. I'm really stuck now.

Where do I start? Do I put her on EASY and do the pu/pd method for her naps? What's the next step?

Also, we're going on a road trip in a couple of weeks. Should I tough it out until we get back or should I try to make some changes now? I planned on weaning her after the holiday but I'm so confused as to the right thing to do by her. I've messed this up so badly for her and now she has to suffer because of my 'accidental parenting'.

I really don't feel confident at all about the changes I have to implement and I know that's the reason why I've allowed it to continue. I feel I need a baby whisperer to come over & teach me otherwise I'll mess it up somehow and she'll be traumatised!

PLEASE, PLEASE SOMEONE HELP ME!!!!

I would be eternally gratefull!

Oh THANK YOU SOOO MUCH!!

It's so nice to hear I'm not alone. Are there any other of Tracy's books I should be reading specifically or should I just go and buy all of them? I just finished Secrets of the Baby Whisperer.

So, I will leave things as they are for now and once we get back from our trip, I'll start making the changes. DH is really nervous about pu/pd and spending the night hearing her cry. Maybe I'll have my mother who will be visiting at that time help him out. I was thinking perhaps I shouldn't be home when they try it. Total weakling. She's such a Textbook baby that she rarely ever cries.

In Same Situation!
« Reply #3 on: August 16, 2005, 20:27:13 pm »
Hi!  This is my first visit to this site and I am here because my husband and I are in the same situation with our 10 1/2 month old son - he won't nap or sleep at night without the breast.  As a result, he sleeps in our bed and will not go in his crib.  He wakes a few times throughout the night and I am concerned that he is not getting enought sleep.  I too am looking for some advice.  Where can I find that consultation with Tracy information posted earlier?  Thanks.  Bonnie

Well you all came to the right place! WELCOME!!!
I hope I can be of some help. Sadly, Tracy passed away nov 25th and gave me a consult only 2 months before... BUT thatīs why her lagacy is written down in her third and final book (itīs the one announced when you first come to the site) GET IT! thereīs a full chapter devoted to pu/pd where she explains in great detail about the age differences...
My consult is announced at the TODDLER SLEEP BOARD...
You hubby should read up too! And go to the pu/pd board as there is invaluable info for you there.
Another thing: her show on the Discovery Health Channel is a 15 part series an it showed many cases like this. One especially, where they sleep trained a 10 mo. with this same issue. IT IS TRULY AMAZING!!!! ask the site admid. maybe they know where you can get a tape or if itīs airing where you live!!!

HERE for you!
