John has been on a veggie strike for a while now.   But today for lunch he asked for spaghetti and brocolli.   I had some in the fridge and that's what he ate.   :D

It really shocked me.  And tonight he ate 2 pieces of corn on the cob and put a tomato in his mouth (it didn't stay there, but that's the closest we have come in weeks!)

So what do you feed a vegetarian on a veggie strike? I guess bread? Dairy?

I am always amazed at what Grace will eat. She loves slices of tomatoes, she will pick them up and gobble them down. She loves carrots, zucchini, corn, peas, etc. But not broccoli.

I didn't realize that they may still be having food strikes by now. That would explain the refusal to eat breakfast thing.

Are pickles vegetables??

Isn't that too funny??  This child would eat bread all day, every day if I let him. He eats eggs, waffles, PB&J, hummus sandwiches, ravioli with tomato sauce, cheese sandwiches, any kind of beans with rice, and mac-n-cheese.  And nearly all fruits.  And he loves split pea soup. I have gotten very good at hiding veggies.  My best best are carrots and spinach pureed into tomato sauce, cauliflower pureed into mac-n-cheese, and carrots pureed into apple sauce.  I have been using a carrot-apple juice mix and Vruit juices.  I even froze some into popsicles.  Devious, I know.   I even threatened to make carrot ice cream, which I might still try. Who knows, with a little brown sugar and cinnamon, it might not be bad.  They made brocolli ice cream on Iron Chef last night. so why not?

He just started this veggie strike about 4 months ago.  I just keep putting veggies on his plate and not make too big a deal out of it hoping he will eat one.

Those are some great ideas! Have you tried Leslie's meatball minestrone (without the meatballs, of course) posted in the recipe forum? Grace loves that soup - especially with crackers.

Glad I'm not the only Iron Chef watcher - broccoli ice cream, yuck!

Alex is usually a big veggie eater - loves broccoli, peas and corn the most, but sometimes goes thorugh little veg strikes for a couple of days. those are some geeat ideas carolyn - i always forget about pureeing veg because she is that much older now, but as i am starting solids for Olivia it will be a great way to use them for both kids - i have never added veg puree to pasta sauce - will try that this weekend (good way to get more variety in for veg)
