Cold food?
« on: August 25, 2005, 10:31:23 am »
Does anyone know of any reason babies shouldn't eat their food cold?

She just started on solids (pureed fruit/veg) normally at room temp but sometimes she gets so hungry when it is only just out of the fridge (and we don't have a microwave).  I thought maybe she might get indigestion but she seems fine (and maybe it helps with teething pain?)

Hi Kit,
My dd has always had food and milk at room temperature, though now she likes both straight from the fridge. She has never had anything warm yet, though I don't know if this will casue problems when we want her to eat warm food, I imagine it will but will see how it goes when winter comes.

Hiya

My dd had her yoghurts straight from the fridge at 6 months old and didn't have any problems. I think it's a bit of an old wives tale that giving them cold food will give them bellyache. As long as she's not complaining about it I wouldn't worry.

love
Marie

When Tyler started solids, his food was always straight from the fridge. I started it that way so that if he liked it, I'd never have to mess with warming his food and worrying about it being too hot. Around that time, we also started giving him formula straight from the fridge, and he liked that too. Now he prefers his food room temp or colder.
