« on: August 26, 2005, 04:02:56 am »
My son is only 6 months old and he seems didn't like his high chair, every time when hesit on his own on the high chair, he will cry very loudly. we have been training him to sit by his own when he is having his meal. but every time not more than 5-10 mins he will cry out and regret to eat unless we hold him in our arm. What shall I do?????? We have been trying to let him have a sit when he is waken in the morning but only 5 mins, and every meal try to let him try, but always fail(not more than 10mins).Please give me some advise and help me.

He may just get tired after 5-10 minutes - he's still pretty young and a lot of highchairs don't give the support they should.  Does yours recline at all?  That helped my dd around that age, but also left her pretty far back from the tray.

I'd just keep doing what you're doing, and every time he sits for 5 min he's building the strength to go longer.  He may suddenly start to enjoy it more in another month when he can eat finger food - that made a difference for Rachel, because she had something to do besides just open her mouth.

There are also suction-cup toys that you can stick on the tray (if he can reach it), and that may distract him long enough for you to eat.

My little one did the same thing for a while with the highchair also.  For us, we tried to make him associate being happy with the high chair.  So if he started crying in it, we would take him out.  We started to let him play in the high chair to feel better about it.  For example, we would put toys on the tray or let him play with bits of food (or smear baby food) on the tray.  He started to associate the high chair with fun, and things got much better.

Hi There,
We still fed our dd in her rock a tot or car seat at this age, she still didnt make too much of a mess. Once she got to 7 almost 8 months and she could really sit properly we started putting her in her high chair and she loved it from day one, think she liked being so high up and being at the same level as us. We only use it when she eats and when she has a snack which is at about 4pm so she sits for about 10 mins and chats while she munches
