Need Quick Help with Tansitioning to 4 hour EASY
« on: August 26, 2005, 10:20:19 am »
Hi  -I am moving my 12 week dd to the four hour EASY gradually starting today and need some clarification.

In the book, some of the times don't add up!  So for today it says that she should have a 2 hour nap in the afternoon starting at 2:45 but it then says that she should eat at 4:15.  Which do I believe?

Also, she is up at 6 am instead of 7.  Any advice on how to tweak the end of the day so that she is not up for too long a stretch?  I know we should have tried to made her sleep longer but she was hungry.  She may be in a bit of a growth spurt so will also be working on upping her calories during the day.

Thanks for any info you can provide.  I will be eagerly checking back here during the day to come up with a plan for this afternoon/evening  :D .  (it is 6:20 am here).

THANKS AGAIN!

I'm not quite sure about the time discrepancies...I'm thinking it's because you ultimately hope for a nap of at least 1-1/2 hrs but no longer than 2?  Also, if she is up at 6, you just adjust the times to match that starting time.  So if she wakes at 6, sleep would start at around 7:45.  Please keep in mind that these are guidelines.  Watch cues closely  :D

I also posted a question of how to structure my day. I'm just going to read his cues as best I can.  He's down for his second nap already, just about to wake up (after 40 min. of shush/pat when he startled at 40 minutes)  I figure he'll go down again 3-4:30 or 5 and then I either put him down earlier around 6:30 or let him have a very short cat nap at 5:30 then put him down at 7:30.

I hope it turned out okay on Friday.  What did you end up doing?

Hi -

I am so confused....In the book, Tracy says that during the transition to the 4 hour easy you SHOULD clock watch and thus I would think watching for cues is not what I should do?  I hate seeing her so tired and thus CRANKY and AWFUL when putting down for naps and bed but I was under the impression that this is par for the course when moving to the 4 hour EASY.  Her naps had been a bit inconsistent and she was NOT interested in eating every 3 hours so that is why I decided to make the change.  I know that increasing awake time can often help with naps, but I just don't know if that is the case here.  She used to be able to get through all of the jolts no problem and then last week she could not.  It is baffling.

Have to get going as Lucy is going into meltdown.....
