how long is awake time for 4.5mo?
« on: August 26, 2005, 16:00:14 pm »
my ds is 4.5mo and has always been really alert (spirited?)

i'm on a rough 4hr easy and we were doing great with a 2 hr morning nap, 1hr afternoon, 1hr early evening.

everything's changed though - he's doing 45 min naps again - partly developmental (rolling). but do you think he needs longer awake time?

his awake time is usually 2hrs. is he too young to extend that? i know the book doesn't rec 2 naps until 6mo or later but i've read elsewhere that some babies can take 2 naps as early as 5mo?

thanks!

Wowza's!!! Zoe's awake time right now is 2 hours (hmmm, side note to myself, maybe I should increase it).   As far as if he's too young to extend it, you will really need to go by his cues and temperament.  I'm guessing though at this age, probably not.  It's probably mostly developmental.  The best thing to do is go with the flow.  Especially too if he is waking up happy.  :D

Hi Micah's mom,
Thinking back, I think that Nathan's wake time at 4 or 5 mos was about two hours, with morning nap, afternoon nap, and evening catnap.  But like John and Zoe's mom said, I would just go with his cues.  We went for a long while where we were giving the evening catnap only if he needed it - so for a month or two, we were really in between 2 and 3 naps.  Good luck!

sheila,

thanks for the advice. can you tell i'm a first-time mom? lol i guess every baby is different and has their own needs. when do you know it's time to drop the final catnap? do they just seem to want to stay up longer?
