quick question about catnaps please
« on: August 26, 2005, 17:30:25 pm »
Hi Everyone,

I'm new to the boards and just implemented pat/shhh last night.  My DS surprised me and pretty much dumped the paci on his own.  Just didn't cry for it last night.  I think because I've been working on his schedule and he's not overtired.

Anyway, the way things look today, he may need a catnap around 5 or so.  I am putting him down b/w 7:30 and 8:00.  Do I wake him if it becomes too long?  This is how our day looks so far

5:10 early feed- working on eliminating
7:00 wake up/regular feed
8:40 mini feed to up calories/help with nap
9:00 nap (out like a light on first try-reassurance at 40min.)
11:00 feed
12:05 mini feed
12:20 nap (woke at 40 and 50 min. needing reassurance and 2pupds)
so the rest of the day should/might look like this

1:50 awake(hoping for 2:20), activity until feed
3:00 feed
4:30 nap

If I want to put him down around 7:30 I guess and hour nap won't interfere?  Do you extend the last waking period longer or just read the cues?

Thanks to everyone who posts on these boards.  The information I have read the last two days has been incredible. I think I might have my sanity back sometime soon :D

i dont know how old your lo is.. but if he needs a cat nap i would follow his cues. as long as it doesnt interfere with his going to bed...

Thank you for the reply.  My lo is almost 5 months (on the 6th).  This is his first day since I don't know when taking longer than a one hour nap.  He had a 1.5,1.75 and 1.5 hour naps.  The last one I was worried was too long, but he still had a mini meltdown when he went to sleep.   I was trying to keep him up to see dh when he got home from work, but good thing I decided not to.

I'm just learning to read his cues as he had a paci up until last night.  I have to admit I accidentally parented him into several habits.  the moment he let out a peep we'd plug him up, poor thing.  And now it doesn't even seem as though he misses it.  And it's quite easy to read his cues now that i'm not relying on the paci.

I guess i'd better go.  He's nearing the 40 minute mark for his sleep.  need to go shhh/pat!
