I am today starting days 4-7 but the times dont make sense. So far i have fed him at 7am so i will put him to sleep at 8.45 and hopfully he should sleep until 10.15 correct but then the rest of the times dont add up??? I am sooooo confused right now.  I think i might have to start from day 1 because i am so awful at picking up on his cues (he's nearly 5 months and had a paci 5weeks until last thursday) that i will have to clock watch to get things straight.

poor guy, if he could talk he'd probably say, do you want me to eat at 3 or 4 hours?  wake at 5 or 7?

are you at all confused also about what to do if they wake at say 6am and are hungry?  do you feed them, try to put them back to sleep for 30 minutes then get them up at 7 to feed again?

i am hoping at the start if he wakes at 5 that it's okay to feed because that's been 6 hours...but it's the in between times that confuse the heck out of me.

anyway, hopefully someone will respond and we'll get this sorted out!

good luck!

My first piece of advice is to take a deep breath and relax....I know that timetable can be a bit confusing, but you can get this figured out and do what's best for you and your lo!

That schedule on pg 230 has been the topic of a lot of confusion and many discussions on this forum.   We even talked to Melinda Blau about it.  No one is certain what exactly is supposed to be right, but here is what we think the idea is:  to extend awake times working on one awake time every three days.  For instance, after the first three days observation, you would work on extending your lo's first awake time by 15 minutes.  Then, after that is working, you would extend the second awake time.   Does that help or make any sense?

Don't forget that you know your baby best, and that Tracy suggests that EASY be a guideline and not a strict schedule.  She also posted those (and every other schedule in the book) as a guideline.

YOU CAN DO THIS!  Just be patient and know everything won't be perfect, but things will fall in to place.

Hi Ali, just to say thank you thank you thank you!!! I have been in tears today because no one replied when i really needed someone to so much

I understand it now and i did it wrong today i kept him awake for 13/4 hrs for all his awake times, so it should have been just the morning one, then in three days i extend the two morning ones, then the next three days all three?? is that correct.

Thanks so much xxx

Yes that sounds about right.

Don't beat yourself up for doing it wrong today.  It's not the end of the world and not the end of BW for you!   Just start better tomorrow and if things don't go to plan then, then start the next day.  You'll get this worked out!

I was led in bed last night racking my brains as to how it works and i think basically

days 1-3 you just observe and awake time is 1.5 hours and feed every 3hrs.

days 4-7 You only keep  them awake an extra 15mins in the the first morning slot so we would keep them up 1.75hours BUT JUST FOR THE MORNING SLOT. all other awake times are the same at 1.5hours.

Daus 8-11 You keep them awake another 15mins in the first morning slot so we would keep them up2hrs BUT JUST FOR THE MORNING SLOT. all other awake times are 1.5 hours.

Days 12-16 Obviously by now you cant add anymore awake time to the morning slot as we have alreay hopefully acheived the 2hr awake time and the morning feed should now be 4hr. So now we work on adjusting the afternoon awake time .

This is my take on it anyway, whether its correct i dont know but i,m sick of thinking about it. Its hurting my head!!!

Good luck Kelly xx
