Hi

I hope that someone can help us, we are at our wits end.

Our 11 month old Lily used to eat solids, including slight lumps. She only has 2 teeth and I feel that she may be teething again. She has suddenly started to refuse food, even pureed food. She keeps spitting it out or spraying it all over the place, we have tried everything and she just wont take it at all. My husband is at the stage that we should just let her starve for a day or two and then she will eat, but I am not convinced. Just to add to the problem she also dosen't like milk so to get 2 bottles into her is a real problem.

I hope that someone can help or at least put our minds at ease.

Have you tried finger foods yet? Around that age, it's pretty common to refuse everything but finger foods. You might give that a try. And be sure to keep offering bottles and sippy cups. Letting her starve for a couple of days isn't a good idea. Babies and toddlers have an innate ability to regulate their appetites, and you'll find that it varies quite a bit. Teething, milestones, illness, and just about anything can put them off food temporarily.

Do your best to go with the flow and not let her see your frustration! If she doesn't want to eat, don't force it. She'll come back around!

Melissa's right - go with the flow!  It's really really really frustrating, I KNOW! Right now, dd won't take anything from a spoon (except really occasionally), but she WILL take chunks from my fingers (won't self feed).  I do what I can.  Often, I'll let her sit on the floor and play while I'm puttering and I keep walking over to offer a chunk of something.

What I've noticed though is that it comes and goes! (I'm just waiting for it to GO again!  :x )

I agree 100% with the others.  Hunter started to do that a little while ago, so I gave him our food, just cut up so that he could "finger food" it.  He loves it, and will now allow me to feed him ... occasionally.

Keep trying and go with the flow

Our ds did exactly the same thing at your dd's age.  He eventually did start eating again, but he refused food and only took the bottle for over a month.  It started during a cold/teething and continued.  I got very worried/frustrated.  Letting him get really hungry didn't help either.  I wouldn't advise it, it just made me and my ds more upset.  Its best not to make an issue of it.  Just do what you can :D Hang in there it will pass.

Hi

Just a wee note to say thank you so much for your replys, Lily finally had some lunch today albeit a tin of spaghetti hoops & susages (not the most nutritional, but hey she took some food). I hope this will pass, although still no teeth, but drooling lots, and not sleeping through the night all of a sudden, she just wants cuddles all the time.

I will let you know how things progress.
