is your LO a 6am waker? Help with new EASY 4 hour sched.
« on: August 30, 2005, 16:46:47 pm »
Hi,

I'm just getting my almost 5 month old on the 4 hour EASY.  He is waking at 6 am hungry, and i don't see the point of trying to put him down until 7 again.  so here is my day today...he can only stay up 1.75 hours right now.

6:00 woke up, tried shh/pat, realized he was hungry
6:15 Eat
6:45 Activity
7:45 Sleep (planned for 8 but he was out in 5 min!)
9:15 wake
10:15 eat
11:05 sleep, woke after only 1:20...but he was soaked through, and totally happy to be up.  since he's new to EASY the book says 1:15 for today is okay.  thing is....this is how the rest of our day will look.
12:30 activity
2:15 feed (this should be his sleep so i'll really have to work to keep him up or move feed to 2:00)
2:30 or so, sleep with little wind down (i'll be sure he's awake going down).  this should be catnap but i might need it to go a bit longer otherwise he'll be up at 3:30 and i'll really have to push to get him until 6.

SO, since he's new getting on the plan, and I need to set his clock, should I push him to a 2:15 feed, and hope to get him down by 2:30 (only 15 minutes late)  Then try for maybe a 1.5 hour sleep rather than a catnap.  that would take him until 4.  Then only two hours until he goes down at 6:00 and he won't be too overtired.  Obviously I'll have to feed a bit early to accomodate the earlier bed time.  OR, only give him a 1 hour catnap have him up by 3:30 and put him down at 6 rather cranky after 2.5 hours.....hmmmmm, suggestions??

edit:
i think i just figured it out.  i looked at the bit about moving from 3 to four hour easy...i'll just give him a long nap 2:30-4:30!

Just wanted to say hi.  I am basically trying to move to the four hour easy too.  Unfortunately I can't offer much advice but maybe a little support.  My DD woke at 6:45am today, ate at 7:00, was active until nap at 8:45am....it's 10:00 now and I am expecting her up soon.
My goal is eat at 11:00ish, nap around 1 (when she will be in grandma's care for a few hours...any advise on how to get relatives on board with EASY? )
Anyhow, she should then eat again at about 3, nap at around 5ish eat at 7 and be in bed for the night by 8.
I'll let you know how it goes.  Keep me posted on yours.  Good luck.
MyDD is almost 5 months as well.

i started his feed early (20 min ahead of 4 hour mark) because it coincided with his sleep sched.  big mistake.  total meltdown.  next time i'll pick sleep over feeding (feed even earlier so as to not miss the window)  he took 25 minutes and lots of shush/pat to settle.  poor guy, it was all mommy's fault-he's just doing the best he can :(

drats...i went in to prevent the 40 min startle and i think i caused it
tried shush/pat pupd for 50 minutes.  had a bit of a break while i changed him because he soaked his shirt with spit up.  I moved him down in the crib out of the wet...finally got him sleeping and he did the 10 min jolt.  regardless of my efforts he kicked his ocean wonders and woke up.  i gave up.  i'm going to put him down for a catnap in about 30 minutes...from 5-6 then bed at 7:30.

i don't imagine the cat nap will go well.
