Help me please
« on: August 31, 2005, 11:50:22 am »
My LO (10 wks) is taking 40mins -1 hour naps. She is so overtired. I read her cues well.  She goes down well. But she wakes up crying.  She used to nap so well.  Her bedtime routine is starting to become affected now and I want to put a stop to it before it gets to out of hand.  I put her to bed when she first yawns. I am starting to think I have done something wrong.  Please help me. I've just started her on 3hr EASY. I not getting any of the Y time now.   :(

45 min nap

How long are you keeping her awake? I found 45 mins to an hour was more than enough, but he was only taking 45 min naps like yours.  Someone then suggested because he was only awke a short while( usually 45min-1hr) he would only neep a short nap, which makes sense when you think about it.  So i have just increased his awke time to 1.5 hours and he now sleeps for 1.5 hours, it worked like magic. If you are already keeping her up for 1.5 hours and she is still only doing 45 min naps then im sorry i cant help maybe you need to work on the pat shushh method, infact there is  great post on the sleep forum that goes into the dreaded 45min nap issue in great detail.

Thanks for the info, but I am afraid I already done that (kept her awake 1.5hr but still no difference). I've tried sssshh pat several times as well. I don't want to do the accidental parenting though, like have her sleep on me. I'm at my wits end with what to do next, like I said I have no problem with her bedtime and I not doing anything different.

Sorry to be a pain.

when you extended A time, was your lo already able to go to sleep on their own?

my issue is that i'm trying to teach him how to sleep, and how to sleep longer as well.  I think it's too much at once.  (see my post-taking a new approach)

Yes she is able to sleep on her own without any problems, is just getting her to sleep longer. I have reread Tracy teaching babies how to sleep and there is one bit in there that say some 8 - 16 week old babies only need 20 or 40 power naps.  I am guessing my lo is doing the same.
