How long B4 responding to early waker-is rescuing??
« on: August 31, 2005, 15:52:43 pm »
Hi,

I have yet another nap question.  My question is...............

How long (time in minutes).....should I wait b4 going in to Jacob's room when he wakes up at 30-40 minutes, before I am responding, not rescuing.  I am obviously hoping that he will fall back asleep on his own.

He is kinda whining...but not outright crying.........he is definitely awake....but there are pauses in noise.....wait, now it is escalating a bit...but not screaming?

Please tell me how long to wait...or not go in at all???

Quick responses are appreciated....this is happening right now!!

THANKS LADIES!!!!

Well,

It is 12 minutes since it started.........and he is starting to escalate...I'm going up and see what happens.

Let me know what you all would do?

Hana,

I am certain I don't know Coles mantra cry. Can a mantra cry sound similar to a needy cry?  Anyway, for what it's worth, I've decided to work on helping cole learn to sleep by himself (see my taking a new approach post) and I'm going to TRY to extend his naps but I'm not going to do pupd for them until he knows how to settle himself to sleep better.  Then I'm going to work on going from 3-4 hours, extending his A time and his naps. It was just too much at once for both of us.

I am 100% with you for support.  Sorry I can't advise on distinguishing the mantra cry b/c it's just as hard for me.

many hugs and hoping for better days ahead for both of us.

How did it go?  Did he resettle or continue?

HI,

He ended up screaming until I picked him up...then stopped crying and started coo'ing.  Does that mean that I am a prop?

Sigh.............I am soooo confused............

We went downstairs and happily played for about 1.5 hours....including diaper change and feed.

Nope, you're not a prop.. he's just learning about sleep, and what he is doing is so common-- most young infants do this.

Some infants respond to the parent going in early and settling him, as soon as they stir.  Have you gone this route yet?  For some it works, for others it doesn't.

Hang in there,
