8 1/2 months and feeds per day
« on: September 01, 2005, 01:10:21 am »
HI I am new to this board and have a question.
My daughter is being breastfed 4 times a day- First thing in morning, after morning and afternoon nap and before bed.
She is also on 3 meals a day and snacks.

I have to go back to work and will have to drop one of the feedings.
Pumping isn't really an option.
My question is do I have to supplement her with formula or is 3 feeds ok for her? Could I have the sitter offer her juice or water instead or is formula a better option?

Thanks
Cara

That really depends on how old your baby is.

When DS was 9 months he started at daycare.

I bf morning and night.  I sent 2x 7oz bottles of formula - which he drank most of.

My breastfeeding councillor said at 9 months 4 feeds, dropping down to 3 at around the 10/11mth mark.  (which is when the midmorning feed went as he was sleeping later in the morning, waking later in time for lunch instead.)

Thank you Alex. That is where I am hoping to go.
On a whole other note. How did your son do starting day care
at 9 months? Were the first couple of days rough due to seperation anxiety?
Kate started this week and is having a really hard time.

Thanks

Before starting straight away, we did a few short sessions, if I remember rightly,
session 1 - 1 hour (with me there)
session 2 - I dropped him after 9.30, they put him to sleep at the usual time for him and I picked him up before lunch.
session 3 - dropped at 9.30, slept, had lunch there and I picked him up.
I think the first 2 consecutive days he had there all day, I arranged that he was in, but I did not go into work so at home.

The first few weeks when I collected him, I will never forget that he didn't 'talk' to me, get a reaction, no eyecontact etc.  As if he was punishing me for leaving.  He may have been a little unhappy when we dropped him, but he was fine shortly after I left.
