Windown...when do YOU put your lo down??
« on: September 04, 2005, 13:20:27 pm »
Hi there,

Just wondering at what point in the windown do you put your lo down into crib/cot?  I am doing a 30 min. windown.  I find that about 10-15 minutes in he gets fussy in my arms and i find that he's trying to settle (especially when he hears the last song). Do you wait until they are drowsy, let's say about 5 minutes before the end of their awake time?  Or do you let them do more settling on their own in the crib?

I just put DS down 10 min. before.  He fussed for the 10 min. and I didn't have to intervene at all.  Should I be happy?  Or is the goal to be able to put them down and have them fall asleep within a minute or two?

By the way-I am astounded at how their bodies know EXACTLY when they want to sleep.  I put DS down a bit early last night ( for 2.25 awake time in case I missed the window) and he cried so hard and then just fell asleep at the 2.5 mark!!!

He's textbook and Tracy's book says he needs the full 20 min. to wind down.

Just curious.  We've made huge progress this week and I'm certainly not complaining.  Just want to know what your experience is.

Thanks much and have a great day!

Traci

my DS is also textbook  :)

when he was younger, i used to do windown 30 mins prior to nap as well. i wait till his first yawn, then put him to bed. he would usually be asleep within 10 mins (max. 20 mins).

mind you, when DS is older his sleep cue start fading, it got a little trickier to when to put him to bed.

good news is, DS is now 7 months. i don't need to do windown. when it's time to bed, i just pop him to his cot and he will do it all by himself  :D

and yeah, i feel absolutely amazed that DS fall asleep, wake up, get hungry ..precisely on the clock !
