Jolts & overstimulation
« on: September 07, 2005, 19:10:26 pm »
I have noticed on occasion my DS sometimes jolts up to 6 times when i put him down for a nap and other times once - can this be down to overstimulation?

I think that if they settle themselves originally then the jolts are reduced...since they can settle themselves again.  I find that when I get Cole down at just the right time and he's out in a couple of minutes he'll now have at least 1 hour if not a 1.5 hour uninterrupted sleep.

I had to help him settle a bit more just now...and had to wait through the 10 minutes because he kept fidgeting and crying out (and not settling back)

overstimulation might be it too.  I have started a new wind down the last couple of days.  30 minutes before the end of A time I start.  For the first 10 minutes we read or sing.  For 15 minutes we walk around the house with him in the sling (and I tidy up!) or out in the yard.  with 5 minutes left I go upstairs and sit in the chair in the dark for a couple of minutes.  Kiss him and put him down.  It's worked wonders (with a couple of exceptions) over the last couple of days.

good luck hana, hope it gets better.

here's a link to the newborns and young infants thread.. there's post on there about jolts and how to handle
it.

Just as an aside.. I remember a post you mentioned about your little one being a prem. Are you still swaddling? This may help with the jolts and extending naps.
