nurse-in question
« on: September 07, 2005, 23:29:30 pm »
I need to have a nurse in (after this weekend and giving too many bottles of ebm and not pumping)
So... how do I keep from overfeeding?  I  really know I need to increase supply (last night she was starving for her last feed of the day and got so worked up she wouldn't nurse.) I know a good way is to just nurse more often, but this afternoon I tried and I think I overfed her (she spit it up pretty forcefully.)
Ideas??
I'm thinking about trying to pump.  But this isn't always an option w/ my 2 yr. old running around/needing me.

I'd just try to fit in 2 extra feedings by moving them all closer together.  Hopefully she'll take what she needs and empty enough that your body kicks in to make more.

Hmm, I don't know how you can overfeed when you are nursing, they usually don't take more than they need. The best advice is to offer a lot skin to skin contact and see if your baby starts to root. It is also a good idea to take a bath together, and see if she would want a boob. You can also nurse while she is napping/sleeping as if you were doing a dreamfeed. Especially night nursing is good at increasing your supply.
