When did you LO go exclusively to 2 naps?
« on: September 08, 2005, 17:23:39 pm »
Abigail is 6.5 month old and I cannot get her down to 2 naps a day. She does a 1.5-2 hr nap in the morning and then wants to do two 45min-1hr naps in the afternoon. I wondered if I am pushing the issue too much, and I wondered when other lo's transitioned to two naps a day.
I have tried extending her awake time in the afternoon but it just makes for a grumpy baby who doesn't sleep well the rest of the day.
Btw, she is sleeping 11-12 hrs straight at night.

Cindy, I was going to ask the same thing.

My ds sleeps 1.5 hours for each of the first 2 naps and then around 45 min for his third nap.  I didn't transition him to 4-hour EASY until 5 mo since he's a touchy, spirited baby.  I think it depends in part on your lo's temperament.  I don't expect to be switching him to 2 naps until around 7 months or so.  I can tell he's already headed in that direction.

Cindy - good question!  Of course, our kiddos are almost the same exact age!   :D

Right now, ds sleeps usually 30 min in the morning, then babbles, then falls back asleep for another 45.  In the afternoon, he usually sleeps about 1.5 to 2 hours.

A couple of days I have put him down at 5 pm for his normal 45 minute catnap, but no go.  He just rolled around and played and talked to himself.  But then we had about a week where he slept that 45 min.  Right now he is upstairs, but is not sleeping, just talking.

I think probably around 6 to 7 months is when they'll start to drop that.  It's getting close to 7 months for us, and I see him starting to get out of that nap.  But I am still going to put him down until he consistently stays awake the entire time.

Good post!  :D

Olivia is also around the same age - she will only doa 45 min morning nap - i have tried extebnding awake time already and no help.  just how she is.  she takes a 1hr 30 midday nap and then a catnap around 4-4:30 for either 45 min or 1hr 30 depending on the day (or like the past 2 days no catnap and up from 2:15 - 7:15  )

i figure she wil drop to 2 naps when she is able to stay up for 3 hrs at a time and / or extends her second nap to at least 2 hrs.

at this rate i am figuring by 8 mo but who knows what she has planned?!
