Explain this one......
« on: September 09, 2005, 14:35:50 pm »
OK, Last night I decided to drop the DF and see what her wakings would be.  Prior to last night I would go to bed at 6pm, DF at 10:30/11:00pm, she would then wake up around 2-3am and then again around 5:30am and then up for the day at 7am.  Last night she again went to bed at 6pm and didn't wake up until 1:15am!!!  I fed her and she slept until 5:30.  I let her fuss for 30 min and then fed her at 6am.  She slept from 6:30 until 7:30 this morning.
Is there any way to extend the second half of the night sleep or as she gets older will this take care of itself?
I am going to try to keep her up until 6:30pm tonight and see if she will extend her 5:30 wakeup.....any suggestions?

Hi Jacki - I had been thinking of trying the same thing with Molly...eliminating the DF.
When you say she woke up at 2-3, then again at 5:30, were you feeding her both times? Is she bottle or breast fed?
We have Molly on the 4 hour EASY, she is going down at 7 pm (awake at 6:30 or 7 am for the day) and I DF her at 10. She takes 4 bottles during the day, 6-8 oz each time, but the DF she only takes 4 oz.
She also wakes a few times during the night but I don't feed her, I just go in and resettle her (takes a minute or two) and she goes off to sleep again so I know she isn't hungry.
I too am wondering how it will go if I drop the DF...anyone else out there done it and had a good experience??

She is Breastfed and she was eating at the 2-3am waking (only one side and less than 5 min as I was trying to wean that feed).  At 5am would eat ALOT and not settle until fed.
In her book, Tracey suggests to keep the DF until solids are firmly established (7-8 months old), however it seems to create a periodic waking pattern in my lo.
