Quick question...
« on: September 11, 2005, 03:47:02 am »
When introducing solids, am I to add the fruit/veg to cereal (i.e. mix it all togther) or feed it seperately (i.e. straight out of the jar)??

TIA

I have always offerred them seperately.  If it wasn't well received, I would just alternate a bite of cereal and then a bite of the fruit/veg, that always seems to have worked for us.

I don't think it really matters though.  I just thought it would be better for him in developing his taste and thought that mixing it in might turn him off of something he previously liked...

we did it separately so she got used to different tastes and textures and her food wasn`t all smushed up together. if i remember right, Tracey said something about how we wouldn`t like it if our food was all mixed up together so why do it for babies. that kind of made sense to me. so feed the cereal and then the fruit/veg afterwards (or the other way round). it`s only later when they get older and refuse cereal (like now for us) you have to get creative about adding in other tastes...

just thought of another quick question - i feel stupid for asking but if i don't i'll only wonder...should the fruit or veggies or whatever be warmed up in any way or can you just feed it straight from the jar right out of the fridge?

not a stupid question at all. i`ve never heated them up as i wanted dd to get used to food that was cold, room temperature and warm (sometimes i warm her cereal when i remember). seems to have worked..she doesn`t seem to care what temperature her food is and we`ve avoided the situation that i think happens with some babies where they`ll only eat stuff that`s heated...it`s way way easier if they`ll take whatever you throw at them straight from the fridge.

Hey all!
Just reading this thread to get prepared to introduce solids sometime soon down the road and noticed all of you are from Canada so thought I'd say Hi!
Nice to see some neighbours around!

Just spotted this topic, wanted to say that I added cereal to her fruit and veg, after the first two days Gigi refused to have cereal on its own so I made her 'creamed' fruit i.e. apple, pear, papaya with milk and rice added in. Went down a treat and also works well with watery veg e.g. zucchini. Not being funny but I also would not want to eat unflavoured rice/ barley etc...
