on average how long does it take now that i know she can do it till she doesnt need the patting shhing?  it does become less right?

Yes

It depends on the baby and you usually have ups and downs but when you have a regression, because they know how the pat/shh works, its quicker to get back on track than when you started.

I think DS was about 16 wks and I didn't have to pat shh at night.  Naps took longer for some reason, a couple of months later and he was sorted.
