She won't dreamfeed - help
« on: September 13, 2005, 17:30:01 pm »
My dd is 8.5 weeks old and rxclusively BF.  We are in our 2nd week of EASY and she seems to be getting used to our routine but I can't get her to dream feed.  Once she's had her bath and been put to slep (which isn't easy), she will not open her mouth enough in her sleep for me to feed her.  I've tried stroking her lips (top & bottom), her chin and her cheek.  I've tried getting her to suck my finger first - no dice.

Any suggestions?  Thanks

My advice is to just keep trying, but maybe a little earlier or a little later when she is in a different stage of sleep.  They sleep so deeply when they are that young.  Don't give up, it will probably eventually happen!

I'd try adjusting it 15-30 min earlier (or later) - if you're catching her at the deepest part of her sleep cycle, she won't feed but if you can get her in a lighter stage of sleep she might.

That said, neither of my girls ever really took to the dream feed, so it's not a big deal if she just doesn't.  They both slept pretty well at night, so it's just their natural preference.  Babies are all so different!
