staying awake!
« on: September 13, 2005, 23:11:14 pm »
Many times my son will stay up until the next cycle. I will put him down after he has been up an hour to an hour and a half, but he just stays awake in his crib. Sometimes its with fussiness, sometimes, he just stays awake looking around. Then he starts to cry because he is hungry again!

I really have not been over stimulating him.
Any advice?

do u put him in the crib after showing signs of being sleepy?
See, my mistake was thinking, "OK, u have been up for 3 hours already, it's time to go to bed" and I would try to make her go to sleep when she wasn't sleepy. And she would cry.
Now, I can tell... between her eye-rubbings, hair-pulling, and a yawn here and there, I know she is sleepy. I take her to the crib and it takes only a couple PU/PDs and she stays down and falls asleep.
so again, I ask, are u putting him in the crib because he is sleepy or because u just think it's time for him to sleep?
Good luck

I usually put him down at the 1st sign of tiredness.  Either a yawn or a small fussy cry.   I thought I was keeping him up too long, so now at the very first sign, I put him down.

As soon as you see that first yawn or other sleepy sign, it's like a window of opportunity opening it!  That's the best time to settle to sleep!
