Hi!
Just had to let those out there that are having issues with Shush-pat, that it can work. It took forever to find a position in which my LO would windown without SCREAMING. But he will now calm down and go off to dreamland with the shush-pat technique. The little secret that revealed itself by accident for us - when the wind down is about to happen, I sit him on my lap, legs straddled one of mind and he cuddles into my chest. Sure, he bobs around for a little while, but he eventually starts to sing himself to sleep and after about 10 minutes I can put him down so that he can finish to go off to sleep. Then entire time I'm gently patting him on the back and saying his name softly (shushing makes me dizzy... :-) )
Anyway, just thought I would let you know - it can be done. After 2.5 months of my Joshua screaming himself to sleep, we finally got it to work. :-)
