ok so i just realized you dont do pick up put down with under 3 months.  well i know i read that but now it makes more sense.  i am only picking juliet up if she gets crying really hard (mistake one i guess was i was not pat/shhing when i pick her up like it says in the above main post) but in the last two days it seems like she knows that if she cries i pick her up so if i set her down and have to pick her right back up isnt that pick up put down?  it just seems like i had her going to sleep on her own for 2 or 3 days and now there is more crying going on then ever....help!

Yes, that's technically PU/PD (though you didn't specify how long you held her).  However, that may not be what's causing her to cry more.  She may be going through a growth spurt.  The reason Tracy suggests not using PU/PD for babies under 3 mo is because it's too stimulating for them and would only make them cry more (while you're doing it).

I suggest that, moving forward, just do pat/shhh instead of PU/PD.  Whether or not PU/PD affected her sleep habits, she should go back to how she was falling asleep within 2-3 days.

Let us know if it doesn't or if there are other issues.

also,  since she started screaming the other day i tried letting her fall alseep on her tummy (i turn her over after i know shes deep asleep).  do you think that is ok?  it seems she cries a lot less...

There are other moms that let their little babies sleep on their tummies.  The reason it's suggested that babies sleep on their backs is for the fear of SIDS.  Just make sure to keep all blankets or anything that could potentially block her airways out of the crib.  Also, only a sheet should cover her mattress, which should be firm (don't place extra blankets or anything too soft or mushy).

I let my DS sleep on his tummy a few times when he was under 3 mo, and he did sleep better.  (But I was paranoid and kept checking up on him; he was fine. )
