Here is how I extended her nap....
« on: September 16, 2005, 18:51:47 pm »
I posted a while ago about extending my daughter's naps by going in early and putting my hands on her as she jolts etc.  It worked but was very stressful for me because I had to stuff my arms through the crib crouched down so she wouldn't see me and she jolted a lot  :?  My arms were aching after.

So for the last three days I have focused on ONE nap to extend.  I make it the afternoon nap because that seems to be when she is the most tired.

I go in early and sit on a stool.  I wait for her to stir and I am ready with the paci.  If she just stirs and stops I wait.  If she starts making sounds and moving more I put the paci to her lips and she takes it.  I sit back on the stool and wait.   The first day she sucked on it then for several minutes and spit it out and then a couple more times (within the 20 minutes) I needed to insert it again.  After about 15-20 minutes she seemed settled so I left and she slept another hour!  The second day I only had to insert it twice.  Today I only had to insert it once.

By doing this she doesn't jolt as much and she transitions smoother.

I hope this will help someone else extend naps.

From looking at your earlier posts, your LO is approx 3.5 mos - Yes?

Thanks for sharing, this tech called wake to sleep with the paci - work for me some times also when we were first fighting the 45min nap at 4mos.

Keep up the good work!
