weaning

hi..I'm very new to this so bear with me.  I caught a glimpse of the Baby Whisperer's book and thought I look this website up.  I have gone through periods of depression because of trying to accomplish one thing another with my children (a 3 year old and a 12 month old).  At this point, it is my 12 month old who i can definitely use some advice on and i'm hoping that one person out there at least can help me out.
My 12 month old has been solely breastfed since day 1 of being born (f.y.i my 3year old did not drink breastmilk. He only drank formula; hence, my concern on weaning).  I love to breastfeed but now I think it is that time to wean him from the breast.  I am getting physically tired and I want him to start drinking milk. We have introduced him to the sippy cup when he was 9 months old because he was not acceptable of the bottle and never did...even if it had breastmilk he wouldn't drink from the bottle.  He is more acceptable to the sippy cup and at first considered it mostly a "toy" but now he does drink water from it.  But when we give him regular milk, he will not take it all.  I don't want to take him off the breast right away but I do want him to be more acceptable to drinking milk..to make weaning from the breast a bit easier.  Any suggestion?  It is certainly appreciated.

Hello there! Welcome to the boards!! Congrats on BF this long too!
I know what it feels like to be anxious about the weaning thing....  Specially if he uses the breast to fall asleep! My story is posted on the toddler sleep board and I think you will find it useful.
Anyway, about the milk... he doesnīt really NEED it if he eats cheese, yogurt, etc... he probably wonīt take it because he is not used to drinking cold milk... and if he takes the sippy cup with water, thatīs great! My dd never took the bottle and loved water. She did like milk and still does but if they eat right, they donīt miss much if they doīnt drink it.

I hope Iīve helped you some!
Know you are not alone ok?
